Title: Dawn of the Planet of the Apes Post by: VidKid on July 11, 2014, 10:26:47 am I really liked this movie and will discuss more later, but couldn't stop laughing at this review.

I think it's probably the best movie of the year. My only concern is that it's not "fun". It's dark, tragic, and serious. I don't know if general audiences are going to want to watch and re-watch a movie without comic relief. But it was awesome. Title: Re: Dawn of the Planet of the Apes Post by: masterfins on July 11, 2014, 11:59:57 am I liked the original Planet of the Apes back in the 70's, but have only seen parts of the "newer" version in recent years on cable. Also, I'm not typically drawn to this genre of movies, but the trailers for this movie look awesome! I may have to head out to the theatre to catch it.
Title: Re: Dawn of the Planet of the Apes Post by: Sunstroke on July 11, 2014, 06:14:18 pm That review had me rolling here... I remember my friend's dad sneaking me and his son into the Marina Theater back when we were 10-11 years old so we could watch the final installment in the original series, Battle for the Planet of the Apes. This franchise, perhaps as much as Star Trek, is responsible for turning me into the sci-fi junkie that I am today. I watched each of the original five movies at least a half dozen times each before I got to High School. I even had a dog named "Caesar," and it definitely wasn't a tribute to the old Roman Empire. ;) This movie was incredible. I think it's probably the best movie of the year. My only concern is that it's not "fun". It's dark, tragic, and serious. I don't know if general audiences are going to want to watch and re-watch a movie without comic relief. But it was awesome. I plan on going to see it this weekend...and I have no problem with "dark, tragic and serious" at all. Title: Re: Dawn of the Planet of the Apes Post by: Tenshot13 on July 11, 2014, 08:55:24 pm Should you see Rise of the Planet of the Apes before watching Dawn? I thought Rise was good. Worth seeing even if it is slow at times. Title: Re: Dawn of the Planet of the Apes Post by: Dave Gray on July 12, 2014, 04:10:40 pm Should you see Rise of the Planet of the Apes before watching Dawn? Yes. But it isn't needed. Dawn works as both a sequel and a stand-alone. You should see Rise, because Rise is good, on its own merit. Dawn happens 10 years later and the premise is re-capped over the opening titles. Title: Re: Dawn of the Planet of the Apes Post by: Sunstroke on July 15, 2014, 01:30:12 pm ^^^ I was planning to see it, but got caught up in other things. I've bumped it to this coming weekend on my to-enjoy list. Title: Re: Dawn of the Planet of the Apes Post by: CF DolFan on July 15, 2014, 03:51:20 pm I didn't get to see it either but am actually excited to see it. I honestly can't remember the last movie I anticipated seeing before it came out. I really enjoyed the first one.
Title: Re: Dawn of the Planet of the Apes Post by: SCFinfan on July 16, 2014, 09:22:08 am I heard great things about this. Wife and I don't get out much b/c of new baby; but, we're making a special trip for this one.
