Title: FREE AGENCY NEWS
Post by: MikeO on March 09, 2015, 08:13:34 am
Instead of starting a new thread for each guy or little news bit I will just start this general thread to throw everything in

Latest "rumor" is Colin Kaepernick is on the trade block and SF is looking to move him. SF's GM is denying the rumor and saying it isn't true.....but SF's track record of denying rumors isn't the best

Jake Long cut by the Rams.

We can say it all together now.....LONG IS A BUST!

The Ghost signed his tender with the Pats.

I was thinking if it would have been good for Miami to make a run for him.

Another in a Long (all puns intended) line of extremely talented football players who simply couldn't take the pounding you get in the NFL and ended up having their career cut short.

Is Long still a viable player at all for the right price?

What a good decision not to hold on to him.

Careful - you're getting awfully close to giving Jeff Ireland credit for a good decision.  Watch your step...

Bradford for Foles (others involved in trade but those are the main players)

They also swapped first round picks in that trade. If Chip is now siting at 10 he is working his way up to #2 to get Mariota!

Colts land Andre Johnson.

They are really going after it by cutting an over-the-hill UM receiver and signing a different over-the-hill UM receiver.

Clay flying to Cleveland. Looks like Bills or Browns for him.
Rumor is Vince Wilfork to Indy or Houston
Demarco Murray has Phily and Oak chasing him.
Browns might trade one of their first round picks for Sam Bradford...yes, don't know why. I guess they almost had a deal with the Rams for him yesterday and are still chasing him

That was an early rumor, but they didn't actually swap first round picks. The way the trade broke down was...

The Rams get: Nick Foles, plus Philly's 4th round pick this year and 2nd round pick next year.

The Eagles get: Sam Bradford, plus St. Louis' 5th round pick this year. Philly can also get a conditional pick next year, dependent on Bradford's playing time this year. If he plays more than 50% of their offensive snaps, Philly gets no compensation pick. If he plays less than 50%, Philly gets St. Louis' 2016 4th round pick. If he doesn't play at all, Philly gets St. Louis' 2016 3rd round pick.

Not FA news, but the Giants gave Coach Tom Coughlin another year extension on his contract so he's not a lame duck.

The Bills let their TE (Chandler) go, so they must be close to signing Clay.

They've also been courting Anthony Fasano.
The fact that Clay left Buffalo to go to Cleveland without a deal in place isn't a good sign for them.

Best thing of this offseason. The Jets entered as a team with a ton of cap space. They sign Revis, Cromartie, Gilchrist, and Skrine and the Jets gave a ton of money away and in one part of the team and they will be back in cap hell very soon

He is only 31 and he put up decent enough numbers two years in Minny with NO decent QB throwing him the ball really. He runs strong routes. I mean he isn't going to break the bank. So for what you have to pay he is probably worth kicking the tires on

I'd definitely consider him.  He's a number one receiver and if the Dolphins draft Parker or Cooper, he can serve as a mentor

If we're kicking tires on old receivers, Reggie Wayne would be higher on my list than Greg Jennings.

Hard to understand that Wayne is finished but Jennings has value...?  Jennings hasn't been a viable threat since he left Green Bay.  Maybe before.

Wayne had MAJOR knee surgery 2 years ago and wasn't the same player last year. No burst, no speed, no seperation

Jennings had garbage QB's in Minnesota which is the reason for his lack of stats

Jennings' alibi is that he had garbage throwing him the ball.
What's Wayne's excuse?

Reggie Wayne was rated the 214th best WR in the NFL last season. Jennings? 65th.

I'm surprised on both ends of that statistic, honestly.

According to Pro-football-reference:
2014 stats

#47 Reggie Wayne - 64 catches for 779 yards and 2 TD
#59 Greg Jennings - 59 catches for 742 yards, and 6 TD

To me, they are the same player.  Reggie Wayne is 5 years older.  Jennings hasn't been productive since 2011 (949 yards), Wayne since 2012 (1355 yards).

Based on nothing but observation,  I'm not sure one gives a major advantage over the other.

You're looking at raw stats. The rankings I provided take into account plays where the ball was not thrown at the player, run blocking etc. It is an analysis based on every single snap.

Again, Luck vs. Ponder/Cassel/Bridgewater.

Eric Decker didn't magically become much worse last season.  He went from Peyton Manning to Geno Smith.

Good...I want to see all of the teams in the top 13 that need WRs sign lots of FA WRs. Let one or two of those tasty rookie receivers slide towards Miami and San Francisco.
