Title: Wallace to Vikings might happen tonight
Post by: MikeO on March 13, 2015, 06:46:05 pm
Per the Miami Herald the Fins and Vikings are working on a trade. Could go down tonight .

Armando is reporting Wallace has been on the phone with Vikings management for the last hour

"We will trade you this pen I just found under my desk for Mike Wallace".
"Sold".

Trade Winners = Miami

Names to watch in a trade are Cordaarelle Patterson or Charles Johnson and swap spots in Rd 1. Or maybe just a 3rd round pick to dump his salary.

Something along those lines.   Oh and if they trade Wallace then Clay is coming back bank on that

Although Wallace was frustrating as hell to watch, what with all the plays he took off and the sloppy running, he is still a very talented player. I'd hate if we let him go for peanuts.

Trade is done per Adam Schefter. Miami traded Wallace and a 7th rounder for a 5th round pick

Fins clear up a lot of cap space. Clay expected to be re-signed now

I really hope Miami doesn't trade anything of value for Cordarelle Patterson. The next time Patterson runs a clean route will be the first time...

Trade is already done. Patterson wasn't involved. Fins just got a 5th round pick

Wallace + a 7th for a 5th? Don't like that one bit.

Yeah, I get he had a big contract that's good to get out of, but still... he's a better receiver than that. I would've expected a 3rd round pick for him.

Title: Re: Wallace to Vikings might happen tonight

You can get value back in a trade or cap space, but rarely can you get both.

Now they can re-sign Clay, and probably move up in Rd 1 to get one of those top 3 WR's....and have 2 great TE's, Landry, Stills and hopefully Parker/White/Cooper as the other WR. That is a good young offense that will be very very good!

Nothing like pressing the "start all over from scratch" button on the Ryan Tannehill receiver chemistry jukebox.

Jeez this poor guy...

I liked Wallace/Hartline better than Stills/scrubtobenamedlater as the WR corps. I get salary dumping but I feel like the Dolphins got raked over the coals on this one.

Offseason is  not even 1 week old, give it time. They are now going to probably re-sign clay. They can move up in Rd 1 to get Cooper or Parker. There is still Crabtree and Bowe on the market. The Fins will keep adding to the WR corp. It's only March 13th

Title: Re: Wallace to Vikings might happen tonight
Post by: EDGECRUSHER on March 13, 2015, 07:43:54 pm
If we re-sign Clay, that means we have Stills/Landry/Clay/Cameron. Draft a WR in the 5th round, don't use any of the Top 2 picks. We still need two guards and linebackers and secondary help. The only WR guys we cut were terrible anyway, don't spend a high pick to replace them.

Title: Re: Wallace to Vikings might happen tonight

If the Fins are in a spot to get a Cooper or Parker or not give up much to move up to get one....they are doing it! BANK ON THAT!

And a bunch of cap space which will let them Keep Clay and add more quality players. Fins now have $13.8 mill in cap space

That's the goal!

Given what they just did with Suh, I just don't have that much confidence.

Can they keep some of it to pay the refs to call the games fairly when they play the Patriots?

Are you saying that trading Wallace added $13.8 million to their current cap space or that trading Wallace raised their current cap space to $13.8 million

Raised their current cap space. Plus, it got rid of an underachieving asshole.

The further we get away from Ireland, the better.

This team has dramatically improved over the past week and you STILL find a reason to whine? I'm really starting to look at you as one of those people who just aren't happy unless they're unhappy.

Raised their current cap space. Plus, it got rid of an underachieving asshole.

This is the net gain from dealing Wallace. Sure, you can probably get a decent player with that 5th round pick, but what Miami really did was get rid of a player they really didn't want on the roster, while giving them more cap space to sign players they DO want on the roster.

This is incorrect.

First off, how has this team dramatically improved?  They got rid of one asshole, only to bring in another at a much higher price.

They keep signing big time players and they never work, yet they keep doing it

Here's what the offseason has looked like:

1) Extend a coach who is the biggest idiot I've ever seen coach this team
2) Chew up a ton of cap space on a head case
3) Get rid of their best receiver

I will be happy when this team makes the playoffs.  I don't know if you threaddig, but if you look back in 2008, I was the happiest person on this board when they won the division.

And you'll notice how happy I get when the team does win.

Who? Who is the asshole they brought in? They brought in all high character guys. If you are talking about Suh he is only an asshole ON the field. Off the field he is a choir boy

The fact that Dolphins4Life doesn't like the trade is all the proof I need that this is a great trade for the Fins.  I would have traded Wallace's no-effort ass for a half eaten churro and a case of the clap. Goodbye jackass, helllo capspace.

So the good thing is that they have this cap room.

I think investing some of it in a kickoff specialist might be worthwhile.  To guarantee that each time you score your opponent has to start at their own 20, like the Patriots do, would be great for the defense.

^^^ That would certainly be one way of looking at things. It's the pessimistic way, but I suppose it's still a way. A different way of looking at it would be:

>>"2) Chew up a ton of cap space on a head case"
* They signed the 2nd best defensive player in the league and the single best free agent on the market this offseason.

>>"3) Get rid of their best receiver
* Miami's best receiver is Jarvis Landry. Doesn't drop passes, doesn't quit on plays and is still getting better.

>>"I will be happy when this team makes the playoffs."
* It's impossible to make the playoffs during the offseason, as there aren't any playoffs during the offseason. Does this mean that you're committing yourself to being miserable for the next 9-1/2 months until the next playoffs start?

I live in New England so I hear first hand how the enemy operates and it would be nice if the Dolphins could pick their brains.

The Patriots would never spend that kind of money on any player, even the best free agent on the market.  In the salary cap world, that destroys your roster.

The Patriots take their special teams very seriously, something I wish the Dolphins would do.

Let me put this plainly for ya, lifer, so that maybe you'll stop complaining about the team spending money:

It is distinctly possible that the player Miami signed, Ndamukong Suh, could be the most talented defensive player that has ever worn a Miami Dolphins uniform. Go ahead, let that sink in for a second. Don't get me wrong, I loved Jason Taylor...he's my all-time favorite Phin, but Suh might be even better than that. He is a physical freak that dominates offensive lines, despite the fact that he is double-teamed on virtually every snap. He single-handedly made Detroit the league's best run defense last season.

I think we can both be happy with the moves made today AND overly pessimistic based on past year's experiences with getting burned over positive offseasons. That's essentially where I am at. I think today's moves were fantastic and think Suh solves a lot of problems, but I will always see an 8-8 team until they get real coaches and stop mentally breaking down late in the year.

Way to hinder Tannehill's development.  This is how you ruin a franchise QB.  WTF were they thinking??

Miami got rid of a WR who had a seriously questionable work ethic and constant issues with dropped passes (Wallace). They replaced him with a younger, even faster WR who can catch the ball significantly better (Stills). They also added one of the better pass-catching TE's in the league (Cameron), who made a reputation as a top shelf pass-catcher despite playing in Cleveland, where the resident QBs are better at making falafels than they are at throwing footballs.

What part of this hinders Tannehill's development?

If I'm Tannehill, I am dancing in the streets of South Beach tonight, and when I wake up tomorrow, I'm sending Tannenbaum and Hickey each a nice bottle of Scotch with a note attached that reads

"You guys are fucking awesome...Thanks!
P.S. Don't forget my interior O-linemen come draft time.

Sincerely,

Your Franchise QB"

I have read in a lot of places but haven't seen it confirmed by anyone. The 5th round pick Miami got for Wallace is the first pick in Round 5. So if thats true that's a nice little bonus but like I said, not sure if that is accurate

What a terrible move.  Jarvis landry is not that good.  His 10 receptions for like 35 yards the last game is good?  How many picks were bounced off his hands?

Are you high? Among WRs with at least 50 catches last season, Landry was top-5 in catch rate. The guy is about as sure-handed as WRs get.

And limited in speed and size which makes him only able to play the slot receiver position.   This team had its deep threat in Wallace and traded him away for basically a pound of honey chicken and a quart of pork fried rice.   Funny how two prolific receivers (Marshall and Wallace) came here for big bucks and underperformed.  Marshall played better in Chicago and I'll bet Wallace is going to light it up in Minnesota.

To paraphrase Bill Clinton when he first ran for President, "It's the coaching, stupid"

Or...this team had it's deep threat who whined too much and caught the ball too little, and dealt him away once we had a younger, better deep threat to replace him.

Marshall played better in Chicago...

And in an eerie parallel, Brandon Marshall, like Mike Wallace, was just traded for a 5th round pick. I'm sure you recognize both receivers' value much better than their (now) former employers though, seeing as how you're so close to the situation.

I would have liked to see how Wallace preformed this year, as I think he was finally starting to show some maturity.  But, I'm not terribly upset he was traded given his past lack of performance, and cap cost.  Many blamed Tannehill for being out of sync with passes to Wallace, but I think Wallace's inconsistent route running was the reason for under throwing and overthrowing to Wallace; I expect Tannehill to actual improve with Wallace gone.

Jennings would be fine to kick the tires on as a #3 WR, but only if he is cheap and comfortable being essentially the 5th option to throw to.

We're debating the true value of Mike Wallace and Brandon Marshall and you call me the name of a beer label??   You've taken weirdness to new heights, pal!!

Maybe the Bears and Fins gave up their most talented receivers for the same reason the Marlins always give away their most talented players... they weren't winning with them, so try something without them.  While that approach gets you younger and cheaper, it doesn't always work.  And it certainly doesn't please the fans who are paying for the $10 beers at the Joe
