Title: Arrested Development Post by: Dave Gray on April 07, 2015, 06:26:50 pm Do any of you watch this show?
I think it is quite literally the best comedy in the history of television. So, so, so smart. I'm watching it over for a 4th or 5th time and I'm still finding hidden jokes. So ahead of its time. It's all on Netflix. I highly recommend everyone on here to at least give it a shot. It continues to build on itself and get funnier and funnier throughout. And word on the street is that they're coming back for a 5th season. Have you seen it? If not what's keeping you away? And if you do watch it, what characters or running gags are your favorites? Title: Re: Arrested Development Post by: Sunstroke on April 07, 2015, 06:52:47 pm I watched a couple of episodes a few years ago, but just couldn't really get into it. That said, I really have gotten away from sitcoms the last 15-20 years, and even stayed away from the "big hit" comedies like Friends, Seinfeld and others. I like good dramas with "a little bit" of comedy built in, rather than a show that seems like every line is designed to get a laugh. Title: Re: Arrested Development Post by: Run Ricky Run on April 07, 2015, 08:34:30 pm Just finished rewatching season 1-3. It is hilarious. The 4 th season is ok. I love how everything comes together. The whole cast is great.
Title: Re: Arrested Development Post by: Dave Gray on April 07, 2015, 08:48:05 pm Stroke, did you watch the first few episodes or just a few randoms?
The show doesn't work if you just pick up in the middle -- perhaps why it didn't make it on network TV. It builds its jokes in layers over years. Title: Re: Arrested Development Post by: Sunstroke on April 07, 2015, 10:25:33 pm ^^^ I watched it from the beginning, streaming on Solar. I actually think I got through the first 3 episodes, and it was funny enough, but I had so much other stuff I was watching that I just sort of lost interest. Title: Re: Arrested Development Post by: mecadonzilla on April 07, 2015, 11:37:34 pm Arrested Development is simply the best TV comedy of the 21st century.
Title: Re: Arrested Development Post by: Phishfan on April 08, 2015, 09:58:15 am I've never watched it. I think this is the third time over the years that we have had a thread about it but I just haven't tried to watch it. I've got so many other things on the plate that I have not found the time.
Title: Re: Arrested Development Post by: Tenshot13 on April 08, 2015, 10:41:30 am Fantastic show...tried to watch it when Netflix brought it back, but couldn't get into the newer season.
Title: Re: Arrested Development Post by: Dave Gray on April 08, 2015, 11:58:16 am The new season is so good, but you have to watch it differently. The first 4 or so episodes are all setup. It's really a genius display of content. They don't play out as episodes, but as one, long, 15 hour episode. So good.
Title: Re: Arrested Development Post by: Buddhagirl on April 08, 2015, 12:31:17 pm I watch AD over and over and over. It is an excellent show.
Title: Re: Arrested Development Post by: Fau Teixeira on April 08, 2015, 12:49:28 pm I've watched it .. and it's OK .. i find myself laughing more at other comedies on TV.
I guess i'm a comedy snob. I find Archer to be hilarious. But recently, i've never laughed as hard as i have from watching New Girl. Title: Re: Arrested Development Post by: Tenshot13 on April 08, 2015, 01:21:50 pm I've watched it .. and it's OK .. i find myself laughing more at other comedies on TV. New girl is a very funny show. A lot of awkward comedy.I guess i'm a comedy snob. I find Archer to be hilarious. But recently, i've never laughed as hard as i have from watching New Girl. Title: Re: Arrested Development Post by: Sunstroke on April 08, 2015, 01:56:01 pm I find Archer to be hilarious. Archer is the only comedy that I watch semi-regularly. The ultimate in raunchy adult animation. Title: Re: Arrested Development Post by: Brian Fein on April 09, 2015, 10:10:04 am I've been wanting to watch it due to commentary like you see here, but I haven't had time, really. I have a list of tv series which I have missed out on, including this, Breaking Bad, and Walking Dead. I don't know if its worth rewinding life, or just moving on knowing I've missed out.

Title: Re: Arrested Development Post by: Spider-Dan on April 09, 2015, 11:27:16 am I started watching Breaking Bad on a recent plane trip to Japan (13 hours is a lot of episodes) and I wouldn't exactly say I got hooked, but I've been watching an episode here and there since I got back. It's a good show; I wouldn't say I like it as much as The Wire, but it's good.
I don't know if I'd include it in a discussion about comedies, though. Title: Re: Arrested Development Post by: Dave Gray on April 09, 2015, 12:14:46 pm Breaking Bad is pretty interesting in that it gets better and better until it ends. The 2nd season gets a little weird with this plane crash subplot, but after that, it gets more and more thematic, and more and more dramatic.
