Title: Day 3 NFL Draft (Rds 4-7)
Post by: Sunstroke on May 02, 2015, 12:39:39 pm

Miami's 4th round pick is coming up... Guards Quinton Spain and Arie Kouandjio are still available. Several good linebackers still on the board as well.

...and as I posted that, Kouandjio was selected by Washington, two picks before Miami could get on the clock.

Fins take Jamil Douglas OG out of Arizona St

Great pick. He played out of position last year at LT as the team needed him there and struggled. As a guard though he is very good and he excels in zone blocking scheme which Miami runs

Douglas is a natural LG who will compete with Dallas Thomas for the starters job.

Damn it, I was hoping he would still be there.

OK, CB, LB or Safety next.

Douglas is solid... I like Spain a little more, but no complaints.

Very-very pleased with the 49ers' selection of TE Blake Bell. He was a late round sleeper I was hoping would land in either SF or Miami so I could cheer for him.

5th round and Dolphins have four picks.  Still some good gussets out there.  Do you gamble one and take Collins here?

Dolphins grabbed a CB with their first 5th rounder, Bobby Mccain, out of Memphis. I like this kid. Strong and smart. Good late pick-up for the Dolphins.

RB Jay Ajayi from Boise State is now a Dolphin as well. If his knee is OK, this is an excellent value pick. Before teams started worrying about the knee, Ajayi was considered a sure-fire 3rd round pick. One of the better receiving backs in this class as well.

I'm actually not familiar with the new CB, but I'm happy happy happy with Ajayi.  I had him slotted as a 3rd or 4th rounder so thrilled to get him in the 5th.  As long as his knee holds up, I think he will make the roster.

Ok, nothing to lose at this point in the draft so let's go ahead and roll the dice on Collins with this next 5th round pick.

Nope...they go Safety and WR with their final two 5th rounders. S Ced Thompson, a strong safety "good thumper but not much coverage skills" guy, and WR Tony Lippett, who had a really productive senior season for Michigan State (almost 1,200 yds, 11 TDs, 18.4 yds per catch). Interestingly enough, Lippett also played corner at MSU.

The analysts just mentioned that Miami may have drafted Lippett to be a big developmental CB prospect.

Love the RB pick, he will be the #2 RB on this team from day 1. If the knee goes so be it, only a 5th round pick investment

The rest of the picks are purely special teams players early on. Lippett is a special teams ace for this team and a big CB, he won't play WR

No linebackers drafted speaks volumes. They like Misi at MLB and feel Suh will protect him better. Also they must fee Paysinger at OLB will be good enough. Fins only play 2 LB's on the field most of the time anyway and play more DB's

This is interesting. Maybe Dolphins know something nobody else does.

The kid is a 2nd round talent. If the knee injury is legit and we only get 2-3 years out of him, so be it I will take it out of a 5th round pick. If its no big deal then we just got a huge steal.

Yeah, can't bring back Daniel Thomas. This was a solid pick. These rounds are for depth and chances, no guarantees for success.

I'm hoping it's Chris McCain that becomes the starter. I think he has terrific instincts.

McCain being moved to DE per reports

Ajayi would be a great pass catcher out of the backfield.  And could pick up 4 or 5 running plays per game.  I like him.

With the exception of the 2nd round pick, I'm pretty happy with this draft.  They may just now be one year away from being a contender (deep playoffs).  If Philbin doesn't make the playoffs, and win that playoff game, he should be gone.  Then Miami could get a reputable coach.

Philbin should've been fired 2 years ago along with Coyle, this season is his swan song. Worst case scenario, Miami goes 9-7, makes the playoffs and Philbin gets an extension despite the team once again underachieving.

I agree. And, WHEN Philbin is eventually fired, mark my words the next head coach of the Miami Dolphins will be Urban Meyer. Ross is BFF's with him plus it would hurt Ross's college rival (Ohio St) by taking him away from there.  And honestly I would be all for the hiring. That's a leader of men and a coach who adapts to his talent!

I hadn't heard that, but that makes some sense, maybe he's my replacement for Cam Wake in a couple years.

McCain only wants to rush the passer. He is a natural DE. His size fits him for DE. Fins giving him what he wants but may move him to OLB if need be it is being reported
