Title: Geno Smith OUT 6-10 weeks
Post by: MikeO on August 11, 2015, 01:34:52 pm
Geno Smith was SUCKER punched by a teammate today. He is now out 6-10 weeks with a broken jaw. Will most likely miss the 1st Dolphins game in London

Outside linebacker Ikemefuna Enemkpali was released after he "sucker punched' him. Todd Bowles said it had "nothing to do with football" and it was over something "very childish".

Word coming out that Geno owed this linebacker $1,000. And the kid was pissed he hadn't been paid yet so he sucker punched him.

That was a costly punch.

Unless Todd Bowles thinks $1K is something sixth graders carry around I doubt it was a fight over money.

According to Adam Schefter

Story behind the punch that broke Geno Smith's jaw in two places:
At the heart of the dispute between former Jets LB IK Enemkpali and quarterback Geno Smith is $600 that Enemkpali believed Smith owed him, per league sources. Enemkpali purchased a plane ticket for Smith to attend his July 11 football camp at Pfugerville High School in Pfugerville, Texas. However, days before the camp, a person close to Smith was killed in a motorcycle accident in Miami and Smith did not attend Enemkpali’s camp, per sources. After Smith did not attend, Enemkpali demanded that the Jets’ quarterback refund him the $600 he allegedly used to purchase a plane ticket. Smith told Enemkpali he would reimburse him the money, but he did not. Enkempali confronted Smith today about the money and the confrontation ended in a punch and broken jaw.

Isn't that something similar to what Martin got bullied about? He's lucky he didn't get a broken jaw!

Jesus, its not even $1,000....its only $600.

But I'm not laughing  too hard here at the Jets here. I don't want any bad luck and some bad "FOOTBALL KARMA" To strike Miami Thursday night. Last thing we need.

My thoughts:

1) Must have been one heck of a punch to injure a professional athlete like that

2) That guy who threw that punch probably cost himself more by being released than what he spent on the ticket

3) I wonder if it is possible to play football with a broken jaw lol.

4) Gonna be very interesting to see who they sign to replace him.

Lloyd Heilbrunn @LloydHeilbrunn
@davehydesports We need to sign Enemkpali, we went a whole game without anyone hitting Geno.....

Several years ago Lorenzo Bromell hit Peyton Manning and broke his jaw. Manning missed one play.

That was a hairline fracture though not nearly as serious as Geno's. I remember Kerry Collins missed a whole season after breaking his jaw in pre season years ago.

One time I broke my jaw after I knocked out a charging bull with my face, then ate a whole box of gobstoppers.  Geno is a puss.

Rex Ryan and the Bills just signed the LB who punched out Geno.

Total circus in Buffalo now. Rex back to his old games

Dunno how reliable this report is (http://finance.yahoo.com/news/details-emerging-fight-broke-geno-141939681.html) but if true, Geno kinda deserved it, but at the same time, he shouldn't have been punched. Looks like not many Jets players are actually backing up Geno in this.

Jets are probably a better team offensively with Fitzpatrick @ QB, worse on defense without Enemkpali.

He had 3 tackles all of last year and only played in 6 games and was 3rd string on their depth chart. He wasn't a lock make the team with the depth the Jets have on the front 7 and if he did make it he probably wouldn't have been active most weeks. Not sure how that makes them "worse" on defense

If a man owes you money and when you go to ask him for it, he refuses, sticks a finger in your face and says, "You ain't gonna do a goddamn thing about it," at that point there are really only three options:

1) back down and accept that your money is gone
2) take the other fellow to court
3) punch the other fellow in the mouth

I can't exactly blame IK.  Geno basically challenged him to a fight.

Phishfan, was the play you are referring to the one in the 2001 game, where he was replaced by Mark Rypien, who fumbled the ball away, and the game turned in Miami's favor?

Yeah but you got the parties backwards.  Incognito stole money from Martin.  Smith stole money the guy who punched him.

One way to deal with the bulling was the way the Jets player handed it, punch the bully in the month.  Another is the way Martin did and quit the team.  I think some here have suggested that Martin should have punched Incoginito instead of quit.

But there is really no good way for the individual player to deal with these bullies on their own.   The coaching staff needs to create a locker room culture where this doesn't happen.

I am one of Tebow's biggest supporters and I say it is time for him to give up being a qb and become a te

This is surprising.  He was having a good preseason and does have value as a short yardage/wildcat QB.

I read the other day that Rex Ryan was making Enemkpali Co-Captain for this week's game against the Jets.  He loves to stir the pot.

In Rex's defense (I can't believe I said that) it would be odd for him not too.  He always names players that use to play for the opposing team as captains.   Incognito was a captain for the dolphins game.

How about just name regular captains and not do this silly thing of having different people being captains each week to "troll" the opponent.

Sort of.

Against Jacksonville, Rex had the entire OL go out as captains; JAX's OL coach is Doug Marrone, who was Buffalo's HC last year but quit (with pay) via an exit clause that was triggered when the team was sold.

Rex's trolling will never reach the master level that Jeff Fisher attained, though.  When STL played WSH, Fisher sent out every player the Rams got for RG3 (http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/11995476/st-louis-rams-jab-washington-redskins-using-picks-acquired-redskins-captains).

I think every stadium the Bills visit should have giant banners of women's feet. Great big pictures of feet everywhere. Rex would have to get someone else to coach the game I bet.

The Jets should send Geno out as a captain with a bunch of monopoly money to pay IK back at the coin toss

Well excuse me Hoodie. The guy has a picture of his wife's feet on his desk at work. That's just disturbing to say the least and I'm bringing it up because I think it would work, not as a joke.
