Title: Offesnive Shake-ups adding Al Saunders and possible defensive help Post by: CF DolFan on October 07, 2015, 08:33:22 am The most interesting thing to me is Mike Smith and Greg Shiano. I don't think they would be the worst thing to help our defense.
While Dolphins interim coach Dan Campbell is keeping Miami’s defensive staff intact for now, he’s tweaking the offensive staff — but keeping Bill Lazor as offensive coordinator. NFL Network’s Albert Breer reported this morning that the Dolphins are bringing in veteran NFL assistant coach Al Saunders as a consultant. Saunders, 68, was head coach of the Chargers from 1986-88. He’s been an assistant for several NFL teams — most recently as offensive coordinator for the Chiefs (2001-05), assistant head coach for the Redskins (2006-07), offensive coordinator for the Rams (2008) and offensive consultant for the Ravens (2009-2010). Saunders was the Raiders’ offensive coordinator in 2011 and spent the last three years as a senior offensive assistant in Oakland. Lazor was quarterbacks coach in Washington from 2006-07 when Saunders was assistant head coach and they are reportedly close. The Dolphins are also shuffling assistant coaches. Ben Johnson, who was assistant quarterbacks coach, will now coach tight ends — the position previously held by Campbell. The report said that receivers coach Ken O’Keefe is being re-assigned but did not elaborate. O’Keefe is the last Dolphins coach remaining of the Worcester Academy trio. In the 1970s, O’Keefe was head coach at Worcester Academy when Joe Philbin was a tight end and Mike Sherman was an assistant coach. Philbin, who was fired on Monday, hired O’Keefe as receivers coach after he spent more than a decade as the University of Iowa’s offensive coordinator. While the Dolphins are keeping the defensive staff in tact for now, the report said “everything is still fluid” and that the Dolphins discussed three former head coaches to help on defense: Jim Schwartz, Mike Smith and Greg Schiano. http://dailydolphin.blog.palmbeachpost.com/2015/10/07/report-dolphins-shaking-up-offensive-staff-but-keeping-coordinator-bill-lazor/ |
