Title: Suh has been relegated to water boy and other practice notes ...
Post by: CF DolFan on October 07, 2015, 10:36:53 am
Odd he is in sneakers and carrying water at today's practice. I wonder if this is some kind of punishment? Can't imagine his protest would include carrying the water. He doesn't look happy.

The Dolphins are doing more physical work while the media is here. Don't think it isn't intentional.

And we have our first fight of the Dan Campbell era. That didn't take long.

Cedric Thompson and Jarvis Landry just got into a fight during blocking drills.

There's a lot more grunting than usual here at #Dolphins practice

Dolphins going at it, 1 on 1, as everybody else watches. Pouncey vs. Brenner, Albert vs. Phillips, Misi vs. Cameron

Koa Misi just destroyed Jordan Cameron. Not pretty!

I cannot confirm report that new Dolphins interim coach will have a fight to the death each week to determine the roster's 53rd player

Just heard: most interesting Dolphins practice since Manny Wright cried.

He wore sneakers last week at practice/walkthrough and apparently (unconfirmed reports) it pissed off Philbin. Maybe this is his punishment having to carry water...lol.

The sneakers thing i don't think is a big deal

He's not practicing so it could be. Call me crazy but this is kind of exciting. I love that we have a physical coach now. I don't know that we have the type of players to pull it off but maybe it will light a fire on the ones that are. Seems to have worked on Vernon.

Campbell got action he wants. DE Olivier Vernon went 3x in 1-on-1 drill. Faced Pouncey once. Didn't wanna be replaced.

For the first time this season, I'm sad when they closed practice to us.

Media portion of practice is over. Number of practices similar to today's under Philbin: 0.0. Intensity you could feel.

Time to start using the old "B" word for Suh. He had two golden opportunities to make a statement against the Jets. A clean shot at Chris Ivory, Should've punished him. Instead Ivory bounces off him, runs for 5 more yards. Then on an important 3rd & 6 at the start of the 3rd Quarter he's got a chance to sack Fitzpatrick but lets him escape and scramble for a 1st down.

I think he made a statement all right. It was "Who gives a crap? Where's my money."

Suh is currently on pace (https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/fancy-stats/wp/2015/10/06/stop-blaming-ndamukong-suh-ryan-tannehill-for-dolphins-ills-heres-the-real-answer/) to eclipse his Pro Football Focus grade from last year in Detroit (when he was First-Team All-Pro).

Maybe the "B" word you were thinking of was "barely getting any help from the rest of the DL"?

I know it is cliche when a new coach comes in and preaches hard work and tougher attitudes, but after Philbin? I would cheer a knife fight between teammates.

I would rather watch a bunch of animals who can't control themselves lose (Bills) than a bunch of "environmentalists" not give a shit and lose by 30 (Dolphins).

Like I said the other day, the team may not play better, but I bet they play harder.

Are we all forgetting the not-too-distant experience the Dolphins had with Beyond Thunderdome-style player management?  Jeff Ireland was a big fan of that, and it led to some rather problematic outcomes.

Surely there has to be some sort of medium between sitting in film rooms with blank stares and gladiatorial combat for restroom privileges.

"environmentalists"

So caring about the air we breathe, the water we drink, etc. is a bad thing? I think you could have come up with something better.

Time to start using the old "B" word for Suh.

Suh is the best player Miami has on the defensive side of the ball, and might be the best player on the entire roster, period.

Apparently the players union is upset about him having them perform the Oklahoma drill in season. I swear these wimps should be playing in skirts.  ::)

But but he doesn't have sacks! His numbers don't look pretty on a stat sheet! That's all that matters!

It was from the movie "Thank You For Smoking". It was code for "Pussies".

I completely understood what it was code for. I did not know the movie reference though. As someone who likes the idea of clean air and water I don't think it is the greatest analogy.

Dan Campbell can do all the Oklahoma drills he wants in practice, short of making the playoffs this season he won't be the head coach next season.

He is just a warm body to finish up the season. Nothing more, nothing less.

If the Dolphins go 10-6 on the season (9-3 under him) and miss the playoffs, Dan Campbell will be offered a head coaching job by some team next year (probably the Dolphins)

What the Dolphins do will very much affect his career, Dolphins go 4-12 at best he is going to back to being a TE coach and it will be a long time before he gets another HC shot.  Dolphins have a winning season he will be an OC some where and probably be an HC somewhere within 3 years.  For him it is more than a place holder.

OK, in the off chance scenario they win 10 games and miss the playoffs he keep the job.

2 things

1) This roster isn't winning 10 games
2) 10 wins will get you in the playoffs in the AFC this year

So in your off the wall, make no sense scenario he would keep his job. Now back on planet earth let's deal with reality.

For him and his career yes it means alot yes, for Dolphins fans (like everyone on this site) he is the placeholder for 12 games then he is gone

Bates didn't do much after his stint as interim coach.

Bowles did.

For me all Campbell has to do is one thing, get the energy level up for the 1st quarter. This team is getting absolutely destroyed before the game even gets going which is killing everything they want to do. Even if they can't sustain that energy for more than the first quarter if they can just compete in the 1st quarter of games that will be a HUGE difference.

Bowles did.

It took Bowles years. After his stint as interim coach he went back to being a secondary coach in Philly.
