Title: Mike Westhoff says Ross wanted Philbin to ride it out
Post by: CF DolFan on October 08, 2015, 08:18:35 am
Mike Westhoff was on the Joe Rose show this morning and said Ross actually met with Philbin in London and they decided to ride this thing out to see what they could salvage. Hence the reason Ross said it can't get any worse and Philbin seemed like he was safe in his post-game interview.

Now I'm not a huge fan of Tannenbaum but he did step in so he get points for that. He told Philbin they would be bringing in some help ala some coaching changes and additions (like they just made). Philbin said no and it was decided he would step down and Campbell would take over. Ross wasn't around and everything to bring him up to speed was done by phone.

I've heard people in the building like Tannenbaum as a person but don't have much respect for his football and personnel experience but this has made many people happy. I know it has for us fans.

Give Ross credit for one thing, he isn't a knee-jerk owner who reacts when things go bad. He stuck with Ireland forever and if this story is true he wanted to stick with Philbin for this year.

Tannenabumn does have total control over everything. Dawn Aponte used to but they brought Tannenbaum in back in February to run the Miami Dolphins. Ross isn't a hands on owner and knows he doesn't know what he doesn't know. So Tannenbaum has final say over almost everything, this would prove that it if this story is true

Yup.  A good owner puts a brilliant football mind in charge and gets out of the way.  It has worked in Pittsburgh, New England, Giants, etc.

Ross's problem is he hasn't found that guy yet.  I thought Parcells was that guy.  He tried Ireland then Aponte now Tannenbaum.    Eventually he will hit it.  He is doing the right things...they just haven't work out for him.  It is like going for it on 4th an inches at the 50 yard line.  Even if you fail to convert, it wasn't the wrong play.

I like this about Ross.

I've been wrong about one thing, though.  I used to think that it didn't matter what he pushed for, in terms of the club, and fanvision, and all that.  But I think it does.  If your front-man wants a party, you'll get one.  ...but you won't get good football.

I think that this has changed, but we were still damaged from before.  Our organization is seen as a joke.

It's only a joke because we aren't winning. No one even thinks about minority owners or a nightclub. Hell the Lakers had a nightclub back in the 80's and no one cared at all.

Our organization is seen as a joke.

Its a joke because they got embarrassed two (maybe 4) weeks in a row, not because Ross wants Gloria Estefan to come to the games.

Win some games, crush a few opponents consistently, and then see who's laughing.

It's been embarrassing for years, this isn't something based off the last month

It's a goofy culture to have in the first place. Add in the fact you haven't done anything in recent history and that puts it off the charts stupid. Win something first.

The damage Ross has caused to this organization may be irreparable.  He's still seen as a bumbling nitwit who is never around and likes to give jobs to people he likes as opposed to people who are competent.  If not for Tannenbaum stepping in, we wouldn't be celebrating the firing of Philbin and Coyle
