Title: Championship Weekend Post by: BuccaneerBrad on January 17, 2016, 09:02:56 pm Looks lime everyone who made predictions this weekend went 3-1 except for Masterfins going 2-2. Now we've got some critical matchups.
The Brady/Manning Bowl headlines the early game as New England travels to Denver. Then Arizona takes on Carolina in the late game. I'm taking the home teams in this one although gut feeling says I'm going to be wrong on at least one Title: Re: Championship Weekend Post by: dolphins4life on January 17, 2016, 11:15:13 pm Going to be rooting really hard for Denver in AFC game, but after what I saw this weekend, I would be shocked if NE does not win.
NFC is up for grabs, but I am going with Arizona. Title: Re: Championship Weekend Post by: Cathal on January 18, 2016, 09:18:18 am I'd say NE takes the game fairly easily. I'll also go with the Panthers taking the NFC game.
Title: Re: Championship Weekend Post by: Sunstroke on January 18, 2016, 09:41:12 am Definitely have to go with New England and Carolina in the Conference Championships... Title: Re: Championship Weekend Post by: Tenshot13 on January 18, 2016, 10:21:59 am Denver and Arizona
Title: Re: Championship Weekend Post by: masterfins on January 18, 2016, 12:01:29 pm Denver and Arizona Title: Re: Championship Weekend Post by: fyo on January 18, 2016, 01:11:58 pm I really hope New England loses. My some rooting "tactic" this playoffs has been "whoever has the best chance of being the Patriots". Sad.
Title: Re: Championship Weekend Post by: Spider-Dan on January 18, 2016, 01:38:53 pm If I'm being honest, I probably want NE to win it all, for two reasons:
1) Preserving Peyton's total of 1 championship makes it easy to cite his brother when talking to the "but what about the rings!" people; only an idiot would think Eli is a better QB than Peyton 2) The Brady vs. Marino ship has sailed over the horizon and lapped the earth. However, if Brady can pass Montana in rings, then at least some good will have come from it (for me, as a 49er hater). It also doesn't hurt that NE winning means that another team has lost, and a certain "lifelong fan" on this board gets to disappear again for a while. Title: Re: Championship Weekend Post by: Sunstroke on January 18, 2016, 01:42:53 pm However, if Brady can pass Montana in rings, then at least some good will have come from it (for me, as a 49er hater). It also doesn't hurt that NE winning means that another team has lost, and a certain "lifelong fan" on this board gets to disappear again for a while. 1) Why would you need to cite his brother? I agree Peyton is better than Eli. There are so many examples you can cite, Dilfer being the most common. 2) I do rank Brady ahead of Marino but not because he has more rings. I have done it based on my observations. I would rank Marino ahead of quarterbacks such as Montana, Elway, Staubach, Bradshaw, and Aikman. (Here's a fact many people might not know about Aikman. He came within a bad call, (and subsequent dumb penalty from his head coach) from winning FOUR consecutive Super Bowls). I wonder, was Aikman vs Young the 1990s version of Brady vs. Manning? Spider, I still am curious to where your 49er hatred comes from. The Dolphins and 49ers only met once in the Superbowl. Title: Re: Championship Weekend Post by: AZ Fins Fan 55 on January 18, 2016, 02:35:41 pm I'm going Denver and AZ.
Would love to see Fitz get a ring after a brilliant career!!!!!! Title: Re: Championship Weekend Post by: Phishfan on January 18, 2016, 03:12:23 pm Spider, I still am curious to where your 49er hatred comes from. The Dolphins and 49ers only met once in the Superbowl. Spider lives in the Bay area. Title: Re: Championship Weekend Post by: dolphins4life on January 18, 2016, 10:07:36 pm If the Patriots do win the Super Bowl this year, it will be Brady's first Super Bowl that Adam Vinatieri did not help him win.
Title: Re: Championship Weekend Post by: dolphins4life on January 18, 2016, 10:26:59 pm Last time the Patriots played the Broncos in the AFC Championship, Peyton Manning had one of his finest games in the playoffs.
Title: Re: Championship Weekend Post by: Spider-Dan on January 18, 2016, 11:34:18 pm If the Patriots do win the Super Bowl this year, it will be Brady's first Super Bowl that Adam Vinatieri did not help him win. Exactly how did Vinatieri help the Patriots win last year?I suppose a very tortured leap of logic could bring you to the conclusion that he helped by playing in the 45-7 drubbing NE gave IND in the AFCCG, but if that's your criteria, then he helped again this year by playing for the Colts in the 34-27 Week 6 loss against the Patriots... a win that ended up securing a first-round bye for the Patriots, in which Julian Edelman got healthy. Title: Re: Championship Weekend Post by: dolphins4life on January 18, 2016, 11:43:27 pm It was a tongue in cheek statement, Spider.
His missed field goal in last year's AFC championship game set up the Patriots second touchdown. Title: Re: Championship Weekend Post by: Spider-Dan on January 19, 2016, 01:29:15 am ...in a game NE won 45-7. But I guess they would have only been up by four scores instead of five at the end of the game, or something?
P.S. Vinatieri missed an extra point in the Week 6 game this year. Title: Re: Championship Weekend Post by: dolphins4life on January 19, 2016, 08:42:08 pm Maybe you don't understand the concept of momentum in a football game.
That missed kick set up the touchdown that put the Patriots ahead 14-0. 7-3 is much different than 14-0, and the game likely plays out much differently. Btw, the missed extra point was not his fault it was a pure block. Title: Re: Championship Weekend Post by: dolphins4life on January 19, 2016, 08:44:52 pm If I'm being honest, I probably want NE to win it all, for two reasons: 1) Preserving Peyton's total of 1 championship makes it easy to cite his brother when talking to the "but what about the rings!" people; only an idiot would think Eli is a better QB than Peyton 2) The Brady vs. Marino ship has sailed over the horizon and lapped the earth. What do you mean when you say the Brady vs Marino ship has sailed over the horizon and lapped the Earth? I'm not good with metaphors. Title: Re: Championship Weekend Post by: dolphins4life on January 21, 2016, 12:27:04 am What does a loss do to Peyton's Legacy?
Title: Re: Championship Weekend Post by: fyo on January 21, 2016, 08:07:38 am What does a loss do to Peyton's Legacy? Absolutely nothing. A win at this stage in his career would be an absolute shocker. The defense might win it for him, but a win would still do affect his legacy, because people have bad memories and in a few years (5), that win will just be a W. Title: Re: Championship Weekend Post by: EKnight on January 21, 2016, 12:41:10 pm Pats and Cats.
Title: Re: Championship Weekend Post by: CF DolFan on January 21, 2016, 02:50:17 pm Absolutely nothing. John Elway was always a great QB but couldn't win until he got a running game. Everyone knows he won 2 Super Bowls but very few remember his pathetic performance against the Packers in the Super Bowl that supposedly sealed him as being a great QB. Title: Re: Championship Weekend Post by: dolphins4life on January 21, 2016, 06:43:05 pm Nine years ago today the Colts rallied from a 21-3 deficit to defeat the Patriots.
Imagine if that game had gone differently. Title: Re: Championship Weekend Post by: dolphins4life on January 21, 2016, 07:01:20 pm Will this week settle the Brady vs Manning debate, too?
Title: Re: Championship Weekend Post by: dolphins4life on January 23, 2016, 03:45:56 pm The opening drive in tomorrow's AFC championship game will be critical.
If the Broncos win the toss, what will they decide to do? On one hand if you receive, you stop Brady from coming on to the field and falling behind early. But if you defer, you lose the chance for a two for one. Title: Re: Championship Weekend Post by: dolphins4life on January 24, 2016, 02:51:39 pm I don't hold out much hope for Denver, but I will certainly be rooting for them.
Denver Bronco is not anywhere near as annoying as Patriots fans. Title: Re: Championship Weekend Post by: dolphins4life on January 24, 2016, 03:06:19 pm Broncos fans sure are out in full force today, and the Broncos are kicking off. We will see how the defense does against this offensive powerhouse.
Title: Re: Championship Weekend Post by: dolphins4life on January 24, 2016, 03:11:08 pm Manning gets the ball now.
Title: Re: Championship Weekend Post by: dolphins4life on January 24, 2016, 03:13:43 pm Manning's first 2 passes don't inspire confidence.
I wonder if Kubiak will have Osweiler waiting in the wings. Title: Re: Championship Weekend Post by: dolphins4life on January 24, 2016, 03:16:10 pm The next two passes are better and the Broncos are moving.
Title: Re: Championship Weekend Post by: dolphins4life on January 24, 2016, 03:17:45 pm That call was correct
Title: Re: Championship Weekend Post by: dolphins4life on January 24, 2016, 03:19:05 pm Looks the Broncos have showed up to play so far.

Title: Re: Championship Weekend Post by: dolphins4life on January 24, 2016, 03:28:30 pm Refs should have called a penalty there.
Guess the refs will be on Denver's side. Title: Re: Championship Weekend Post by: dolphins4life on January 24, 2016, 03:30:01 pm Manning has never won an AFC title game without the officials' help.
Title: Re: Championship Weekend Post by: dolphins4life on January 24, 2016, 03:34:43 pm I want the Broncos to win, but I also want a fair game.
Title: Re: Championship Weekend Post by: dolphins4life on January 24, 2016, 03:36:31 pm This will not be a fair game that was garbage
Title: Re: Championship Weekend Post by: dolphins4life on January 24, 2016, 03:37:37 pm The refs have now stopped the Patriots first three drives.
Title: Re: Championship Weekend Post by: dolphins4life on January 24, 2016, 03:39:46 pm Please nobody comment on me being a Patriots fan. I am not. I am objective and reporting what I see
Title: Re: Championship Weekend Post by: dolphins4life on January 24, 2016, 03:45:04 pm Looks like we are about to be tied at seven.
Title: Re: Championship Weekend Post by: BuccaneerBrad on January 24, 2016, 03:46:01 pm What a bullshit overturn. It was too close to call. I wonder how much money the refs got paid
Title: Re: Championship Weekend Post by: dolphins4life on January 24, 2016, 03:46:41 pm Lol are you watching this game, or not?
Wow the extra is no good, wide to the right. Title: Re: Championship Weekend Post by: dolphins4life on January 24, 2016, 03:50:34 pm Wow the Broncos hit on the first deep pass of the game.

Title: Re: Championship Weekend Post by: dolphins4life on January 24, 2016, 04:17:09 pm Can the Broncos keep this up? I hope so.
Title: Re: Championship Weekend Post by: BuccaneerBrad on January 24, 2016, 04:23:37 pm 15 yard penalty for going out of bounds when you had no effect on the play? Get real
Title: Re: Championship Weekend Post by: dolphins4life on January 24, 2016, 04:25:37 pm Wonder why the Patriots are running the ball.

Title: Re: Championship Weekend Post by: dolphins4life on January 24, 2016, 04:29:37 pm False start and a sack. Not the way you want to respond after a turnover.

Four times they let him hey away with it Title: Re: Championship Weekend Post by: dolphins4life on January 24, 2016, 06:47:38 pm On the Gronkowski play in the end zone fourth down:
Actions that do NOT constitute pass interference include: - Laying a hand on a receiver THAT DOES NOT AFFECT THE RECEIVER'S ABILITY TO MAKE A PLAY ON THE BALL. No penalty :) Title: Re: Championship Weekend Post by: dolphins4life on January 24, 2016, 06:48:14 pm You can do that if there is a receiver in the area.

Title: Re: Championship Weekend Post by: dolphins4life on January 24, 2016, 10:01:14 pm I just saw another replay, and that might have been pass interference on the Broncos on the play to Gronkowski in the end zone.
