Second star Lion to retire with gas left in the tank Title: Re: Megatron retires Post by: Cathal on January 31, 2016, 09:18:03 pm Wow, really? What was his remaining contract like?
Title: Re: Megatron retires Post by: fyo on February 01, 2016, 09:33:49 am Wow, really? What was his remaining contract like? He had (has) a back-loaded contract with all the good years coming up. His base salary for 2016 is $16M, $16.5M in 2017, $17M in 2018, and just over $18M in 2019. http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/detroit-lions/calvin-johnson/ Title: Re: Megatron retires Post by: Tenshot13 on February 01, 2016, 10:05:32 am Damn, home boy is leaving a lot of money on the table.
Title: Re: Megatron retires Post by: Phishfan on February 01, 2016, 10:09:17 am One of the best players in Lions history. You have to hate seeing the great ones walk away, but isn't it even sadder to see when they stay too long?

I think we're going to see a lot more superstars leaving early...not because of performance, not because they want to push for a better team. It's because they've made enough money to live their life and they want to have a long life where they can see their kids grow up, still be able to walk, and not have brain damage and end up killing themselves. It's a lot of money, but any of these guys are dumb for playing one down longer than they have to. Dude, LOL Never understood the nickname, thought it was stupid. I digress. Sucks for Lions fans, but good on Calvin. May he enjoy his life and family from here on out, he was one of the greats. I simply said he was walking away, which is hard to watch them do. |
