Title: New England going with one QB?
Post by: MyGodWearsAHoodie on September 19, 2016, 03:10:45 pm
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2016/09/19/patriots-appear-set-to-start-jacoby-brissett-with-julian-edelman-no-2/

Seems a bit odd.  But I see several reasons why this sorta makes sense.....

(1) Is there anyone other than Peyton Manning (who is not currently on a team) who could come in and be ready to play on Thursday?

(2) If Brissett goes down they are gonna lose no matter who the back up qb is (good chance they are gonna lose no matter what happens) why disrupt the roster if it won't improve your chances to win the game.

(3) Brissett need 100% of the coaching staff's attention to have any chance of winning, bring in someone else and they are going to need lots of attention to get them ready.

(4) Bring someone in teach him the playbook and cut him week 4 or 5 and he is going to be signed to be signed by Bills, Browns, or Bengals.

(5) Let say you bring in someone like Tebow and Jacoby opens the game with an interception, you are gonna now have the stands chanting "Tebow, Tebow."  In 2008 Belichick decided the best thing he could do for Cassel was to not have Cassel looking over his shoulder (and while the Patriots missed the playoffs I think most people would agree that NEP did pretty good all things considered)

If they bring someone in, it won't be to back up Brissett.

Matt Flynn, Jimmy Clausen, Tarvaris Jackson... Yeah, not a stellar list. Fortunately for New England, the AFC East looks soft again, so winning it shouldn't be too hard even no matter what happens in the next two games.

Disagree.  Game is only 4 days away and those guys don't know the playbook.

Agree.

I *almost* think the sensible move is for Belichick to tell his coaching staff, "we have 14 days to prepare for Buffalo. Use Houston to prep for that game. We beat the Bills and we are 3-1, 2-1 in the division and in great shape."  No way he would do that, but I would  (might be why I am not the coach)

I'm not convinced Brissett knows it either. Or has the ability to actually execute any of it.

he has been studing it for months, he knows more of it than anyone they bring in.How much he can executeI don't know.

Pats will still win.

The Pats could win without a QB. I wouldn't expect them to lose with Brissett. They've pretty much proven they can win with any QB in there.

I don't understand why Brisset couldn't start the game with Garrappolo the backup if Brisset gets hurt and Edelman being the emergency QB. From what I understand Garrappolo's injury is the kind that can't really be hurt more if you shoot it up, it's just a matter of pain management. Now I wouldn't start him, I'd give him another week to get healthy, but if Brisset goes down he could come in and attempt to play at least and if he can't go then play Edelman.

This shows why Tom Brady's "victories" do not make him the greatest quarterback of all time.

Pats down to their 4th string QB next week possibly. Brissett got hurt now. Ligament in his thumb on his throwing hand, uncertain if he will play next week. Doesn't look good from early reports

Garoppolo will be back next week as he now has ten days to heal.  Then Brady's suspension is over.

Not so sure about Garoppolo. Mixed reports on if he is playing next week. Time will tell

I think New England should bring in Ronnie Brown for this game and run the wild cat.

The ENTIRE GAME.  Every.play.

Because they can.

I'd love to see Rex's presser after that.

Ronnie Brown couldn't have done much worse.

it was ugly but I figured 2-2 would be more than manageable for Brady return
