Title: Hyde: Ten thoughts on Dolphins' 20-0 loss to Saints
Post by: hordman on October 02, 2017, 07:38:27 am
Do Londoners associate bad football with the Miami Dolphins?

In 2015, Joe Philbin got fired after a dismal loss to the Jets, and this time you get the feeling Adam Gase might just fire his entire offense after a 20-0 loss to the New Orleans Saints.

That may be the worst display of football I've seen from this team in a long time, at least from the Offensive side of the ball.  If you had told me before the game that the Def was gonna hold Brees to 13 pts mid way thru the 4th Q I would have taken it and liked our chances

I know everyone is dumping on Cutler, and he does some of the blame at times, but this all comes down to the play of the Off Line.  It is atrocious, no continuity, they don't fire off on blocks and Cutler is harassed when he drops back to pass.

Felt bad for Ajayi, who came back home and was hoping to put on a show for the home crowd and really didn't get the opportunity to show off. 12 car for 46 yds.  AND, he's fighting for all those yards as well.  I like how ESPN and others throw out that stat about Yards After Contact with him and how great he is.  You know why?  Cause his OL is not opening the holes and he's having to bust his ass to make any headway

There was a play to start the game where he was hit behind the line, struggled thru some arm tackles and ripped off a 15 yds run and stumbled at the end or he might have taken it all the away.  And here's two of his OL (Tunsil was one of them) standing by him when he got up.  If they were really doing their job they wouldn't be there IMO

Feel bad for the guy, cause he's running hard and angry, but he's got guys at his feet as soon as he touched the ball.  And that 3rd down and inches call with Cutler in the shotgun?  What the fock was that?  Get your ass up under center, let Ajayi have a head of steam and get the 1st down.  That shotgun and hand-off just allows the Def to get thru the OL to make a play.

This OL needs an overhaul or maybe they should be looking at Chris Forester to see if he's doing his job with these guys, cause either way, it's cutting it in this league.  Until this OL is fixed, they will go nowhere, regardless who's behind center, in the backfield or catching the ball

Fins up

8. I really hate games like this where the officials either thrust themselves or are thrust into a starring role. On one, second-quarter play, there were three penalties called — two against Miami’s defense (holding and offsides) and one against New Orleans (holding). On a third-and-1 at the Saints 43, Kenny Stills was called for a pick penalty when the Saints defensive back initiated contact. On third-and-1 from the Dolphins 31, defensive tackle Davon Godchaux was called for holding. You couldn’t get through much of the game without a flag being thrown. And that meant …

You know the refs have to be exceptionally bad when the media bothers to mention it.
