I figured I would get some good answers from some of the dolphins fans. As a Patriots fan I was getting allot of shit from other Pats fans when I was saying that they should have traded Brady and kept Jimmy G. As a dolphins fan you should know that its not easy drafting the next QB. Shit look at the Browns. How many years you think Brady actually has left, 2? I think it was a selfish move on Krafts part keeping Brady. I think Bill wanted to keep jimmy g. Its hard to say if Jimmy will be a great QB but from what we seen he has the potential. They could have traded brady and got allot to help build for the future. Instead he willl leave and the pats are going to be left without a QB and all the bandwagon pats fans will disappear and Kraft will try and fill seats.

I thought it was a bad move, Jimmy G has franchise potential.  You'll see a decline in Brady as soon as this year.

Definitely think Kraft made Bill get rid of Jimmy G. I think Bill would have had no problem trading Brady and building for the future.

As a lifelong 49ers fan, I've been taking 15 minutes each day and offering up an ongoing happy dance to the Football Gods for allowing us to land Jimmy.

I'm not sure it's that simple.  They're basically taking a chance on this year.  Brady said he plans to play two more years.  Belicheck won 10+ games with Matt Cassel the year Brady got hurt.  So is Jimmy G so surefire (think Young replacing Montana) that he would be any better fit for Belicheck than a Cassel or a Ryan Mallett or a free agent as a contingency plan for a year?  Or will he just yell next man up as a stopgap and get a guy in the draft next year?

I think it's a little different, as Jimmy G has played at a high level for the 49ers as well.

I have to believe that BB thinks he can turn a lot of QBs into a good QB so he ins't protecting any of them. He really hasn't failed with any since he's taken over New England.

I don't know why everyone praises Belichick for handing (at the time) the best offense in history to a backup and finishing only 5 games worse than the previous year.

While I would have loved to see the Patriots keep Jimmy G as I believe he has more good football ahead of him than Brady has ahead of him.  But that would have required trading away mid season an all time great QB playing at an MVP level during a playoff run.  Just don’t see how anyone can pull the trigger on that.

It would not have required moving Brady midseaso just because Jimmy G was.

He's been great over about half a season...  That's a long way from a being set at the position for the next ten years.

I agree.  Which is why I think the Niners are really rolling the dice on giving Jimmy G that monster contract based on a six game sample size.

Mistake #1 was not trading Jimmy G before the start of the season, or that years' draft selection when the Pats could have gotten two #1 picks from the Browns (when they still had Brissett on the roster).  Mistake #2 was trading Jimmy G for nothing, with no apparent backup in place.

For those keeping score at home, one has a 3 to 1 td to int ratio, one has a 3 to 1 int to td ratio.

While nothing would please me more than Jimmy Gesus turning out to be a bust, this was one game against a top defense in the league.  Let's not take too much from it.

I hate the fact that the guy who is probably the best QB to ever play the game is a Patriot.  But the sports fan in me is really glad that I have gotten the privilege of watching Brady throughout his career.  Hard to compare him with Jimmy G because they are at opposite ends of their careers.  Brady is winding down his career and Jimmy G is at the beginning of his.  If I had a team who's window of opportunity for a Super Bowl was closing and this was a now or never kind of year, I would want Brady.  If I had a team that was posturing itself to be a playoff contender for years to come, I would want Jimmy G.   

In retrospect, this thread seems premature.

Jimmy G's decision to turn upfield instead of going out of bounds - while still 9 yards away from the first down marker goalline-to-go, and down two TDs - will likely go down as the worst decision of the season.  And given that his knee buckled before contact, his injury in his second start with NE now seems like it should have been more of a consideration.

So, in the spirit of premature discussions, I have to ask: is Jimmy G the next RG3, but with a monster contract?  Inquiring minds want to know.

Looks like the toast is undone and won't be done for a long time.   :D

In all seriousness, I'm sorry to hear about Jimmy G.  Hope he rehabs intensely and comes back strong next year.

Lynch and Shanahan have locked six year contracts...the rebuild continues apace. Yeah, I am sorry to see him go down (and McKinnon before him), but this is football, and that shit happens all the damned time. Silver lining...I've always liked CJ Beathard, and it will be good for him to get some more time to develop on the field.
