Title: Can Gase set himself apart?
Post by: dolphins4life on September 19, 2018, 12:05:24 am
Since 2002, this is Miami's fourth 2-0 start.

Each of those times has been with a different head coach.

2002: Dave Wannestedt
2010: Tony Sparano
2013: Joe Philbin
2018: Adam Gase

The last three times this has happened, the Dolphins fell apart and missed the playoffs

In 2002, Fielder got injured.  However, with the division title and a first round bye on the line, the Dolphins fell apart

2013 was the biggest disaster of all.  Miami choked away game after game they should have won.

What are the keys to avoiding a repeat this season?

The biggest take away that I have from this is all these guys managed to start 2-0 at some point as Miami's head coach? Perhaps that's not as big of an achievement as I think it is.  :o

In theory, approximately 1/4 of all teams 2-0 in any year.  Going 2-0 doesn’t mean you are playoff bound.  And going 0-2 doesn’t mean you are out of the running for the SB.

Actually, the last time the dolphins won the division they started out 0-2.

Beating the Titans and Jets doesn’t prove the team is playoff caliber, it means they don’t suck (which is a good thing).  Same thing with Raiders.  Week 4 we find out if the Dolphins have what it takes to be a contender.

Try telling that to the talking heads. All I kept hearing all week about Dallas was that there was something like a 12% chance of making the playoffs if you started out 0-2, but then I started thinking that's like 1 in 8. Going with the same premise that you did above that there's probably going to be a handful of teams that start 0-2 pretty much every year then the chances a team that starts 0-2 makes the playoffs is about every other year. In fact I read that an 0-2 team has made the playoffs every year since 2013. Doesn't sound quite so bad when you look at it that way does it?

TLDR: My comment was a bit tongue in cheek. :)

I'm thinking that just one win in the playoffs would set him apart. i think the phins are 1-3 in the playoffs since 2001. So maybe 2 wins in the playoffs.

they are 0-3.  Dolphins last playoff win was Dec 30, 2000.

Everyone is getting the ball and involved, no one is a star. Sucks for your Fantasy Team and for these guys come free agency, but it's helping them win football games. I would like to think this is Gase's strategy.
