Title: Game ball - vs. Raiders Post by: Spider-Dan on September 23, 2018, 04:09:00 pm My game ball goes to Albert Wilson. One TD on the ground and a TD pass. Huge game.
It was a tough call over my honorable mention, Xavien Howard. This guy is breaking out as possibly the best DB in the league. Title: Re: Game ball - vs. Raiders Post by: EDGECRUSHER on September 23, 2018, 05:03:08 pm I was very worried when Reshad Jones was ruled out and the first two Oakland drives backed that up, but they fought back defensively and X-Man is a big reason for that. He gets the game ball on defense and Jakeem on offense.
Title: Re: Game ball - vs. Raiders Post by: dolphins4life on September 23, 2018, 09:26:56 pm Wilson obviously.
Title: Re: Game ball - vs. Raiders Post by: dolphins4life on September 23, 2018, 11:24:39 pm The refs deserve one for setting up Miami's first score.
Title: Re: Game ball - vs. Raiders Post by: fyo on September 24, 2018, 06:06:19 am The refs deserve one for setting up Miami's first score. The refs also cost the Dolphins a score with a complete phantom of a pick play (the first one) where the linebacker steps up and hits the receiver on a crossing route, despite the receiver taking a step and a half towards the LoS to avoid contact. There were some other questionable calls as well and this time I feel the Dolphins got shafted more than not. My Game ball goes to Xavian Howard for sitting on Amari Cooper all day and coming up with an awesome interception at a critical point (the first INT was nice as well). For reference, Cooper caught just two balls for 17 yards with Howard covering him. HM to Tannehill for a near-flawless game, much better than last week. Title: Re: Game ball - vs. Raiders Post by: DZA on September 24, 2018, 09:46:17 am the man they call " X " . Xavien Howard
Clutch Interceptions . good game bro Title: Re: Game ball - vs. Raiders Post by: Dave Gray on September 24, 2018, 11:08:10 am The refs also cost the Dolphins a score with a complete phantom of a pick play (the first one) where the linebacker steps up and hits the receiver on a crossing route, despite the receiver taking a step and a half towards the LoS to avoid contact. There were some other questionable calls as well and this time I feel the Dolphins got shafted more than not. I agree with this. Additionally, this was one of those games, where even when we were down, I thought we would win. We outplayed the Raiders all game and kept getting brought back with holding and other plays not indicative of what was happening. ...or extended Oakland's streaks with defensive fouls on uncatchable balls and stuff. And the helmet ripping for a first down. We were better than they were on Sunday. Title: Re: Game ball - vs. Raiders Post by: CF DolFan on September 24, 2018, 11:58:46 am I have to go with X for the two interceptions and his coverage all game of Amari Cooper. The two-time Pro Bowler managed only two catches for 17 yards. This means X had as many catches as he did. LOL
Albert Wilson is a joy to have and I love how he has instituted including his teammates on his celebrations. Good call from a team player. I think that attitude is infectious. I also have to give a shout out to starting right guard Jesse Davis who filled in on the defensive line as well yesterday. It takes a village! It takes a village! My boy brought this to my attention during the game,I didn't even see that. He said he played DL in a college a little bit. MIA needed al the help they could muster on the DL yesterday. Title: Re: Game ball - vs. Raiders Post by: masterfins on September 24, 2018, 12:40:42 pm Xavien Howard, with an HM to Wilson as a close second. Grant also had a couple big plays.

I didn't have that level of confidence, but I can say that on the Wilson pass when Grant was in the open field with one guy to beat, I absolutely knew that was 6 points. No way Grant is getting tackled in the open field there.Title: Re: Game ball - vs. Raiders Post by: CF DolFan on September 24, 2018, 06:53:39 pm From Armando ...
Albert Wilson played only 10 plays Sunday: Scored a 74 yard TD and threw a 52 yard TD. 10 plays. 2 TDs. Efficient. That's pretty incredible Title: Re: Game ball - vs. Raiders Post by: DaLittle B on September 25, 2018, 10:50:11 am It's hard for me not to vote for Xavien Howard,IMO he timely pick in the endzone felt like it saved our bacon...
For most of this game,I had Shame of the game on my mind more than Gameball... :-[ Title: Re: Game ball - vs. Raiders Post by: Pappy13 on September 25, 2018, 12:51:28 pm From Armando ... Who's getting all the snaps? Did Parker have the majority of the snaps along with Stills? Are Amendola and Wilson splitting time? What about Grant, is he getting a lot more looks? It's a good thing that there's so many players to choose from but 10 plays for Wilson seems a bit light.Albert Wilson played only 10 plays Sunday: Scored a 74 yard TD and threw a 52 yard TD. 10 plays. 2 TDs. Stills, Parker and Amendola are the starters so I'm guessing they did get the majority of the snaps. Stills, Parker and Amendola are the starters so I'm guessing they did get the majority of the snaps. Do other teams spend much time preparing for back ups? That may be part of the success. Anyhow, lets remember that Wilson used to be a QB and can throw the ball. Tannehill used to be a WR and can catch and run. Next trick play maybe Tannehill sneaks out as the receiver. Lots of overlapping skill sets on this team.Title: Re: Game ball - vs. Raiders Post by: Pappy13 on September 25, 2018, 05:39:42 pm Tannehill used to be a WR and can catch and run. Next trick play maybe Tannehill sneaks out as the receiver. I'm actually surprised this has not happened already with Tannehill. Not necessarily this year but in years past. Maybe it has and I'm just forgetting it.Edit: Just looked it up and sure enough he has caught 2 passes in his career. One in 2014 and one in 2015 although the one in 2014 was for -4 yards so that sounds like perhaps that was a batted ball or something. Title: Re: Game ball - vs. Raiders Post by: fyo on September 25, 2018, 05:41:39 pm Who's getting all the snaps? Did Parker have the majority of the snaps along with Stills? Are Amendola and Wilson splitting time? What about Grant, is he getting a lot more looks? It's a good thing that there's so many players to choose from but 10 plays for Wilson seems a bit light. Well, Stills, Parker, and Amendola are the top three receivers. For reference, Stills got 40 of 44 offensive snaps, Parker 33 and Amendola 31. Finally, Jakeem Grant got 9 snaps on offense. (Just for kicks, the Dolphins had 44 offensive snaps that game, the Raiders 82!) Parker seems to keep getting snaps because he's big. Teams value size to a disproportionate degree, IMHO. Not that I wouldn't mind a Gronk, but he is very much an outlier -- we do actually have 3 TE/WR types on the team at Gronk sized or bigger, but they aren't exactly lighting it up. The knock on Wilson is that he's only 5'9", but if you look at his "next gen stats" on NFL.com, he scored the HIGHEST in average separation of anyone in the NFL (with 43+ targets) and he just missed out on most YAC per reception. Lots of things affect these stats that aren't under the control of the receiver, of course, but he has a very solid catch rate, creates separation, and gets huge YAC. What else do you want? (And, yes, before anyone else points it out, his numbers might be a bit inflated because he isn't seeing #1 CB coverage, but with that argument, where are all the other average receivers with great numbers?) The problem on the Dolphins is probably that there are just a lot of quite good receivers. Jakeem Grant had 2 touchdowns against the Raiders and is averaging 15 yards a reception this season. That's going to keep him in the rotation. Grant didn't see much action his first two seasons and, again, I think height (5'7") might be part of it. The first two weeks, with Parker out, Grant and Wilson pretty much split his snaps. Did the offense look better? No, so we'll probably see more of the same for the immediate future. HM to Howard yet again...he's one of the best in the league, and they'll notice soon enough. |
