Title: Standings now
Post by: dolphins4life on December 16, 2018, 03:50:00 pm
Baltimore 8-6
Indianapolis 8-6
Tennessee 8-6
Miami 7-7

Miami must win out

Tennessee must beat Indy week 17

Redskins need to beat the Titans.

That would give them all 9-7 records and Miami would make it

Cue Tenshot posting the Dumb and Dumber picture

You forgot that Indy would have to lose to the Giants. Good luck with that.

Wrong

My scenario gives all three teams 9-7 records, this would give Miami the tiebreaker.

This is also assuming the Steelers lose to the Patriots and Saints

Sorry, I checked again and you are correct. Pittsburgh would need to lose twice or win 1 and tie 1. Still Miami just winning their last 2 games seems a long shot at this point as they have not looked good away from home and they have to play Buffalo away in week 17 with the Bills looking to be the spoiler. That will be a tough game. I see the Dolphins finishing 8-8 at best.

i dare say your path to a wildcard is so difficult that you have a better shot at division (eg complete collapse of NE and win out) than WC

Incorrect.  As the 5th seed is going to KC or LAC, BAL needs to lose a game in the next two weeks to get to 7 losses.  You did not mention a BAL loss.

MIA playoff conditions:
First, win in Week 16 and 17.  Then one of the following:
a) 2 NE losses, or
b) 1 PIT win + 1 BAL loss + 1 TEN loss + 1 IND loss, or
c) 2 BAL losses + TEN loss to WSH + IND loss to TEN

MIA will be eliminated from playoff contention with 8 losses, so that part is easy going forward.

Here's the problem.

Titans will likely beat the Redskins this weekend.
Colts will likely beat the Giants this weekend.
Patriots will likely beat the Bills this weekend.

If that happens no matter what Miami does they are out of the playoffs.

Correct: if all three of those teams win this weekend, MIA is eliminated from playoff contention.

Baltimore would have to lose against the Chargers for it to help the Dolphins. i believe they would have the same Conference record and a phins win against the bills would even the common games so it would go to Strength of Victory. which Miami would own if the Ravens win isn't against the Chargers.

BAL and MIA have the same conference record right now, 6-4.  BAL and MIA's remaining games are all against AFC opponents, which means that if MIA and BAL wind up with the same record, BAL will necessarily have one more conference loss than MIA.
