Title: Shame of the Game - vs. Bengals
Post by: Spider-Dan on December 22, 2019, 05:15:18 pm
Brian Flores.

One of two things is the case:

a) Flores gave up a 23-point 4th quarter lead to the "worst" team in the league because he was trying to lose (in which case, he's bad at his job because he failed to accomplish that goal), or

b) Flores was actually trying to win and could not stop the freaking Bengals from coming back from a 23-point lead to force OT

To paraphrase Bobby D in Casino, if Flores didn't know how to stop the Bengals then he's too incompetent to keep his job, and if he did know, he was in on it and he still didn't lose the game.  Either way, he's out!

1) The Front office again, for starting the rebuild early (Hey, if you guys get to repeat jokes (i.e., this absurd insinuation that I'm a Patriots fan), then so do I).

2) Brian Flores.   Twice this season he has evoked bad memories from Super Bowl 51.  First against Washington with the two point play.  Today, because it was 28-12, and the Bengals had to convert two touchdowns and two two point conversions to tie.

The weather.

Miami wilted with the heat in the second half; whereas the Bengals showed up frozen and thawed out just in time to come back.

There is something to be said for the criticism that if we was trying to lose he did a shitty job and if he was trying to win he also was doing a shitty job.

We also don't have a lot of talent on the defensive side of the ball. Plus, hail mary's and onside kicks are crap shoots. I think everyone walked away from that game feeling down on themselves, especially Andy Dalton who played himself out of a job.

The 4th quarter meltdown is not entirely on the defense.  It took a total team effort - offense, defense, and special teams - to make a collapse like that happen.  All three phases of the game were in complete harmony; it was a perfect symphony of incompetence.
