Title: New Year's Resolutions 2020
Post by: Dave Gray on January 03, 2020, 11:06:31 am
This year, I'm limiting my caffeine intake.

I've had some issues with anxiety for the first time in my life this year.  I found that curbing coffee, especially when I'm out of routine, helps chill me out a lot.

^I already did that for the same reasons.  I've had stomach issues since September, and have an endoscopy on Wednesday.  I'm fairly confident they aren't going to find anything, and it's all anxiety and stress related.

Weight loss for me.  I'm 255lbs right now, let's see where I'm at in a couple months.

Save money more aggressively

Stop driving at night; find other ways to cope with stress

Find out more about climate change to determine my financial planning.

Do another Tough Mudder and find another similar race to do

Explain the climate change financial planning.

Explain the climate change financial planning.

Well, like I said about Miami, how habitable will the planet be in 20 years?

If it won't be habitable, I won't have to save as much.

Let's say I plan to retire at 60, but if by the time I'm 45, the planet is doomed, maybe I should retire at 40 and blow my savings.

Like all people, I want to save to have a good retirement, but if I won't be able to use the money I save, it would be nice to know now.

The effects of it are definitely being felt here in MA.  All three days this year have been insanely warm.

If the question you are trying to answer is "Will human life still be viable on planet Earth during my lifetime?",  I can put your fears to rest right now.  There is nothing that will happen in your lifetime (outside of, say, global thermonuclear war) to make the planet uninhabitable for humans.

However, "retirement" is a word that people use.  If you "retire at 40" and immediately blow your savings, it doesn't mean that you get to opt out of food and shelter requirements after that.  You will still go on living your life... just with no job and no savings.  Seems to me like being broke and homeless would be less desirable in a world with harsher climate.

I also want to live greener in 2020.

I have started by stopping driving around at night.

Any other things that I can do to be more eco-friendly?

My health is overall good, but doc says my cholesterol level is high.   So I'm going to change my eating habits a bit.   No more fast food, fried food, or fatty meats for a while.   I've stocked my freezer with boneless chicken breast, yellowfin tuna, tilapia, and ground turkey.  Also lots of green vegetables.  Potatoes are fine, but plain baked potatoes and mashed potatoes with very little butter.   Also drinking 1% milk as opposed to whole milk

I can talk about some ideas.  Where do you live?  Like...do you live in a house with a yard, an apartment, etc?

I live with my parents

I think we can agree that climate change is real

- The Indian heat waves
- The Australian fires
- This lack of a winter

I think you'd assume wrong then, at least to the degree that a lot of climate alarmist say it is.  I'm not saying climate doesn't change, and people don't have an affect on it, but there is a lot of misinformation out there and it's not as bad as Gretta Thumberg says it is.

I'd have to look into the Indian heat wave more, but a quick google search shows temperatures on average annually have stayed roughly the same since 2012.  https://www.statista.com/statistics/831763/india-annual-mean-temperature/ (https://www.statista.com/statistics/831763/india-annual-mean-temperature/)

Australia is the driest continent in the world (other than Antarctica) and there have definitely been 24 people arrested for arson, with conflicting reports of up to 200 people that legal action has been taken against.

What do you mean lack of a winter?  Looks pretty cold to me in your location.

If you live in a house with a backyard, you could start composting.  That's kinda fun and is good for the environment, but also makes less trash.
