Title: Working out during this time
Post by: dolphins4life on March 26, 2020, 11:26:14 pm
Obviously the gyms are closed and I want to stay in shape.

I tried online, but everything is sold out

On facebook I have seen the following ad

https://www.zsrsome.store/contact-us-3.html (https://www.zsrsome.store/contact-us-3.html)

It looks like a scam.  How do I verify this?

What other things could I do to keep my arms buff?

How long will it take for my arms to look like I have never lifted weights in my life?

Also, if I work out, does that mean that I leave myself more vulnerable, as if I am tired it might make it harder for my body to fight things off.

What are you trying to buy? Weight lifting equipment? Just get free weights. Maybe an exercise bench that reclines for bench presses. Maybe some heavy rope if you're into that sort of thing. All of that is available from reputable retailers on Amazon and major chains.

What did the facebook ad claim? The link you provide is simply to a contact form. That, in itself, can hardly be called a scam.

HOWEVER, listing a yahoo.com email address as the contact hardly inspires confidence. Combined with prices that are suspiciously low, a site domain that is very new (under a year old for the .store domain, 3 months for the identical site scarfiv.com), very low traffic volume, hidden owners, etc.

Too many red flags for me, I'd stay away.

You could take this time to work on your core strength and maybe get some cardio in.

*Never* lifted weights? A really long time. Depending on natural hormone production and activity levels, easily a decade +.

To look significantly "diminished"? Well, that depends on how pumped you were before and what kind of maintenance you did. If you were super pumped and had to work really hard to stay that way, it's going to go faster. Generally speaking, you're not going to lose much muscle mass the first few weeks as long as you aren't bedridden. You might lose some muscle *tone*, but that should be easy enough to get back. Once we start talking a month or more, you will definitely start losing muscle mass, but it is a very gradual process.

Note that you will lose *strength* faster than muscle mass. This is due to several factors (blood supply, neural adaptation), but the strength comes back quickly once you restart your training.

According to current science (see: https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fimmu.2018.00648/full ), it's a bit of a myth that endurance training and the like will negatively affect your immune system. It doesn't even appear that there is a short term dip in immune response. And being fit generally *improves* your immune system, so have at it.

Exercising doesn’t require equipment.

Unless you live in a very congested area you can go for a run.  Plenty of runners out in my town, everyone makes large arcs onto the grass to avoid getting cloee.

Running, push-ups and sit-ups are the backbone of most military training.

You don’t need a dumbbell to lift weights.  Just something heavy at least for something like curls.

You don't really need anything. A body weight program can be effective depending on your current fitness level. You'll adapt to that rather quickly though. A good set of adjustable dumbbells and an adjustable bench are my recommendation. You don't really even need the bench as there are so many exercise variations to hit each muscle group. Dumbbell floor presses are great replacement for bench press.

I did some bicep curls with the water jugs at the store.

I also did the exercise bike and some push-ups.
