Lot of rumors lately that Julio Jones has asked to be traded and he is being linked to the Patriots because he wants to play with Cam Newton....for some reason. The Falcons don't have the cap space to sign their draft class so they have to make some moves.

Shannon Sharpe asked him if he wants to land in Dallas next year and that is when he said "I'm Outta There" about Atlanta. He may or may not have known he was on live TV. I really hope he doesn't go to the Patriots, that is going to make the division even harder, especially if Cam is serious when he says he learned how to throw better after shoulder surgery this offseason.

It also shows how poorly the Falcons are run. They could've sold that #4 pick for more picks and started a rebuild but somehow convinced themselves they were a Tight End away from contention. Now, their top WR looks to be out the door and here comes another 4 win season with an aging QB.

That choke in the Super Bowl against New England set this franchise back to a point where they may never recover.  It's been downhill ever since for them.  They needed to draft Matt Ryan's eventual replacement with that #4 pick and may not have another opportunity to get a good replacement before Father Time catches up with Ryan. 

This is a poorly run franchise so they may yet again draft in the Top 5 next year. They knew for months that Jones wanted out, meaning they were even farther away from a title than they were already. Yet, these schmucks drafted a Tight End instead of a franchise QB or trading back for more picks to help rebuild. We know from experience that it doens't matter who is on the field when the front office is run by dopes.

I love the analysis from everyone they are going to suck and pick high again next year with no consideration that maybe they didn't like the idea of drafting any of these QBs and would rather take that shot on one next year.

It is possible that they didn't like Justin Fields or Mac Jones and that is fine, but then they should've traded back for more picks and restocked the roster. Pitts is awesome but he could've been turned into 2-3 solid starters.

If Pitts were still on the board when MIA's turn came up, should MIA have "traded back for more picks and restocked the roster"?  Kinda hard to criticize the Falcons for doing what many wanted the Dolphins to do in drafting Pitts.

Seems to me that if ATL expected that they may be about to lose a generational talent at WR, drafting a generational talent at TE is a perfectly reasonable strategy.

We are at a very different position from the Falcons. We are looking to win the division this year or better, they don't even realize they need to rebuild yet.

My guess is that they are also trying to win their division.  Otherwise, you trade Ryan and draft a QB.

Next year's QB class is weak as it stands right now.

Everyone is trying to win the division. Hell, the Jaguars are trying to win the Superbowl but you have to accept reality. The Falcons are not winning the NFC South, nor are they sniffing the playoffs. This was the time to rebuild and they blew it.

Pitts was on the board for Miami at 3 and they did trade back for more picks.

It's not a hypothetical.

You could say every player was still on the board then because Miami made that trade before the draft.

Mike Florio states that the Titans are the favorites to land Jones. I don't want him going to a good team but probably better the Titans than the Patriots.

I wouldn't mind seeing Tannehill make a deep run. I was rooting for him over a lot of other teams last year.

Bleacher Report is saying that the Titans have agreed in principle to trade for Jones.  Details to come later.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the Falcons are trading Julio Jones and a 2023 sixth-round pick to the Titans for a 2022 second-round pick and a 2023 fourth-round pick.

I would too.  I'd even offer a third as opposed to a 4th in 2023 because you have two firsts in 2023 which gives you the option of trading down and re-acquiring it.   Tua throwing to Jaylen Waddle AND Julio Jones?   That's a Bama connection in Miami right there.

Given Julio's age and a troublesome and lingering injury last year, I think this was a pretty fair trade.  Compensation was pretty much what it should be.  With the Titans, Julio won't have to carry the team and with Brown as the other WR and Henry in the backfield, this is a perfect situation for Julio and another excellent weapon for Tanny. 

It seems fair adding in his salary, but I am surprised that not one team who thought they were a piece away threw in a better offer.

I was listening to ESPN radio this morning and I think it was Golick Jr. who made the point that since Jones had to be traded in order for the Falcons to get below the paycap (to the point where they couldn't even sign their rookies with Jones on the roster) and the fact that Jones made his "I'm outta there" comment a few weeks ago, teams knew that the Falcons HAD to trade Jones which left them in a very perilous negotiating position. 

I suppose a comparison would be if you owned a house and were having no problems paying the mortgage, etc. you would be in a much better negotiation position than if you were missing payments, the bank was about to foreclose, etc. 

Oh, I totally understand they have no bargaining power for a variety of reason. I'm just surprised that other teams didn't bid against each other. If I were the only team available, damn right a 2nd rounder is the best I offer. However, if another team really wnated him, they do a 2nd and 4th and it keeps going until the offer is better. Looks like it was just the Titans making proposals.

Apparently that huge contract was an albatross for a lot of teams from what I'm gathering. 

I'm sure they could've gotten more had they committed to a rebuild and put him on the block months ago. Rosters are basically all set finance wide by now.

Tannehill went from 7 years of hell with the Dolphins to having Derrick Henry running the rock and now throwing to Julio Jones. Who says God doesn't answer prayers? hahaha

With the Colts downgrading at QB and the Texans somehow getting worse, it's almost a cakewalk to the division title too. The AFC East and North are brutal divisions while the South became a joke overnight. They might be looking at a first round bye.

Not necessarily.  KC is still the team to beat in the AFC.  Remember, there are 7 seeds in the playoffs now so only the #1 seed gets that bye.  Other than that, I agree with you.  The Titans could overtake Buffalo and get home field advantage the first two rounds.
