Title: Did anyone watch the Pro Bowl? Post by: Dave Gray on February 06, 2023, 07:53:10 am I forgot it was on.
Did anyone watch? How was it? Was the flag football/skills competition better or worse than what came before? Title: Re: Did anyone watch the Pro Bowl? Post by: Downunder Dolphan on February 06, 2023, 08:28:47 am I forgot it was on. Did anyone watch? How was it? Was the flag football/skills competition better or worse than what came before? I ended up watching it going in with absolute skepticism thinking it would be all one gigantic wank, and... I actually found it a lot more entertaining than I expected, and better than the last couple of Pro Bowls. Being a flag football event (plus skills events) takes away the pretense of anything serious. I had some real LOL moments, and it was great to see Cheetah have a couple of major highlights (including the only real physical contact moment all day). Is the Pro Bowl ever going to be anything other than a B-Grade joke? With half the guys who decided to attend, it probably never will be, so keeping it short and fun is a good idea. Will it catch on? As it turned out there was a bit of novelty value to this one to make it entertaining - who knows if that will last to next year or beyond? Title: Re: Did anyone watch the Pro Bowl? Post by: fyo on February 06, 2023, 08:40:42 am I didn't watch it, but I was a lot closer to doing so than pretty much any other year. From the comments by players and media, it seems like the format was fairly successful and the flag games actually more intense and competitive than the "tackle" game that used to be held.

One thing that was really noticeable was the lack of quality at the QB position - that has to improve if this thing is going to stay alive. Goff was flat out embarrassing - it was like everyone said to him he really didn't deserve to be there, and accordingly he played like he didn't give a shit and proved it. Title: Re: Did anyone watch the Pro Bowl? Post by: Sunstroke on February 06, 2023, 09:26:41 am Nope...ignored it completely. I treated it with the same importance of any meaningless flag football game or golf tourney that might be on TV. I watched a recorded copy of Saturday's Senior Bowl instead. Fairly lopsided, but it was good for a little player eval. Title: Re: Did anyone watch the Pro Bowl? Anyone stand out and is possibly gettable to add to the draft shopping list? Title: Re: Did anyone watch the Pro Bowl? Post by: masterfins on February 07, 2023, 11:05:02 pm I've been forgetting the Pro Bowl was on for the past 50 years. It's never advertised, at least I never see any ads. I think the only times I've watched it is when I was channel surfing and came across it. I use to want to watch when Marino was in it, but he rarely ever played.

Yeah, quite a few things of note... First, this year's TE crop is reeeeally good and reeeally deep. Both Musgrave and Durham impressed during the game, and there are probably 5-6 quality NFL starting TE's in the class. After watching the RB for Tulane, Spears, destroy USC in the Cotton Bowl (200+ yds, 4 TDs), he had another awesome game in the Senior Bowl. He's definitely moving up draft boards at this point. OT Darnell Wright from Tennessee had a great week of practice and showed up during the game as well. OG O'Cyrus Torrence was a little shaky to start the week, but finished strong. H'll go in the 2nd or 3rd round. Lots of good speedy edge rushers in this class. Title: Re: Did anyone watch the Pro Bowl? Post by: dolphins4life on February 08, 2023, 03:44:01 pm One word: NO
They need to eliminate it. What's the harm in just naming an all-pro team? Title: Re: Did anyone watch the Pro Bowl? Post by: Spider-Dan on February 09, 2023, 01:56:29 pm What's the harm in just naming an all-pro team? Pro Bowl teams acknowledge the best players in each conference, whereas All-Pro is the best at each position in the league.Additionally, because there are some positions (e.g. QB, C, K, P) where only one player is selected for All-Pro each year, but others like LB where several All-Pros are selected, Pro Bowl allows for more fair recognition of achievement for the former positions. |
