Title: What's the Best Coaching Attire Post by: Dave Gray on September 18, 2023, 05:11:22 pm The Suit
(https://img.huffingtonpost.com/asset/5b9f24c02000003000fea5a9.jpeg?ops=scalefit_720_noupscale) Mike Nolan wore a throwback suit like Lombardi for the 49ers. This was the old-school. Team Jacket / Windbreaker (https://imengine.prod.srp.navigacloud.com/?uuid=9CD02057-A554-424A-9BA0-E68A2C38715C&type=primary&q=72&width=1024) These came out in different loud colors and patterns throughout the 90s. The Sweater / Sweatervest (https://i.ytimg.com/vi/L6NZK5t8Fso/maxresdefault.jpg) Sometimes accompanied by a coat, sometimes stand alone, always stylish. The Polo (https://www.imageofsport.com/img-get/I0000j91BjC7Y6F4/s/1200/I0000j91BjC7Y6F4.jpg) This business casual with khakis look remains popular today. Athletic Gear (https://www.nbcsports.com/sites/rsnunited/files/styles/picker_post/public/article/hero/sean-mcvay-step-away-rams-2022.jpg) For more fit coaches, they'll sometimes wear a close-fitting Under Armor type getup. The Hoodie (https://dolphinswire.usatoday.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/53/2023/09/1687790547.jpg?w=1000&h=600&crop=1) A casual look for the millenial generation. It seems... on brand for both the coaching staff and the unavailable players to all be wearing the same stuff.
However, if you're an older (or fatter) coach, that would look silly. I think in those cases, the polo is fine. Team jackets or (non-homeless) hoodies are fine for inclement weather. I've noticed that since the new logo change, there are some really nice Dolphins polos available. I love my current set. This was the old-school. Same result, but Mike wore the suit because his NFL coach dad, Dick Nolan wore one... ;D (https://static.www.nfl.com/image/private/t_editorial_landscape_12_desktop/league/dkkgguwn1g3lczv0j9q5) [mod edit: fixed image size to avoid breaking page] Title: Re: What's the Best Coaching Attire Post by: Phishfan on September 18, 2023, 09:51:17 pm I think suits are stupid at a football game and that goes for the owners box also. At least lose the tie and act like you can let loose some. I personally like the polo look. I wear some at work also.
Title: Re: What's the Best Coaching Attire Post by: AQNOR on September 19, 2023, 07:35:48 am Suits are never a good look for a game played on grass and dirt. Why do you think in baseball, the manager and coaches where the same uniforms as the players?
I've always favored the polo and khakis look, but the team athletic wear is growing on me, especially with the younger coaches. The team coat/windbreaker is good for extreme cold weather. If there's one thing I'd like to see, it's for NBA and NHL coaches to ditch their suits in favor of team polos. And for chrissakes, quit making players travel in suits and ties. Title: Re: What's the Best Coaching Attire Post by: Dave Gray on September 19, 2023, 08:22:33 am I personally love the suit. I think it's really cool for night games.
Title: Re: What's the Best Coaching Attire Post by: Spider-Dan on September 19, 2023, 12:20:38 pm Why do you think in baseball, the manager and coaches where the same uniforms as the players? This is the dumbest thing in sports and only persists because baseball is ancient and has ridiculous rules.Imagine Marv Levy or Andy Reid standing out there in a full uniform. Or even worse, Jeff or Stan Van Gundy. Title: Re: What's the Best Coaching Attire Post by: Dave Gray on September 19, 2023, 01:11:46 pm I hate baseball managers in uniform. Its ridiculous.

I dig the suit look in general... Title: Re: What's the Best Coaching Attire Post by: Downunder Dolphan on September 23, 2023, 06:01:11 am I still think there is a classy element involving wearing a suit as the head honcho to a game.
To do it in a basketball stadium is one thing... to wear it in the coldest of weather and not show a flinch... that's very impressive! |
