Title: Predictions - @ Packers (Thanksgiving)
Post by: Dave Gray on November 26, 2024, 02:40:26 pm
Who ya got?  A friend of mine said that we haven't won a big game on the road in 30 years, which made me laugh.  It's hard to pick us for that reason.

I'm worried about a QB with mobility.  We are bad at that.

The interesting thing about "winning a big game on the road" is that you can always redefine them after the fact so they don't matter.

Week 1 at the Chargers last year seemed like a big game at the time.  But Herbert got injured later in the season, so now it's considered irrelevant.
Week 2 at Baltimore the year before seemed like a big road win.  But again, Lamar got injured later in the year, so that doesn't matter either.

If MIA wins on Thursday, and GB fails to make the playoffs, this won't be a "big win."  Same with HOU or SF.

Beating the Chargers on the road was a big win.  We're just busting balls.

I'd also say the road game this year against the Rams on prime time was a big win. That game was a game we typically lose and many times do it in a very bad way.

I think Miami has more vested interest in this game and will find a way to pull it out. If we can orchestrate a playoff loss by 3 to Buffalo in the snow playing Skyler Thompson at qb, I think Tua will figure out a way to score enough against Green Bay.

Miami 17
Green Bay 16

Miami:  31
GB:      30

The battle turns on the turnover, as Miami notches a 2nd half defensive TD (Chop Robinson) to clinch the win.

Branch to thin branch to twig...

That was last season. Half the defensive starters were different, as was the DC. It's basically irrelevant.

What's far more relevant is that this season the damming fact is we haven't beaten a team with a winning record (yet).

That's why this game coming up is huge - we beat the Packers on the road, a team on the up with serious playoff hopes, and we can take those last couple of wins against the easybeats more seriously as a genuine momentum change. If we are hammered, it's a massive reality check.

Alexander being out for them is huge, as Tua should take advantage of their secondary if our OL protection is good enough. The other side of the coin is if our defense can stop their run and continue to generate enough of a pass rush to cover our own deficiencies at LB and Safety right now.

It should be high scoring and close. But I think the Packers home field advantage will be the difference.
