I’ll always remember him as the guy who helped end the playoff drought.  Also, he has come the closest anybody has to winning a playoff game with this team since 2000.

It had to be done, but I wish him well and hope he gets a decent chance with another team.

He had the potential to be more than a decent backup a couple of years ago, but regressed badly this year. I think a good chunk of that is that he's had minimal support from coaching (and arguably players) this season and last.

I don't know that any late-round backup gets an incredible amount of support from the team.  It's basically sink-or-swim.

I think he did enough in 2022 to earn the prime backup role when he outplayed Teddy Bridgewater. But from immediately after almost getting us over the line in that playoff game against Buffalo, we tried to replace him three times. Hardly a vote of confidence.

That said, every backup QB we had this year and last have struggled badly, not helped by receivers dropping passes, players missing blocking assignments and committing penalties, McDaniel not getting in the plays quick enough, etc. I am beginning to wonder how much (if any) of this also has to do with Tua being a left-handed passer as much as his understanding of the offense?

I think Tua must be getting close enough to all of the important reps, and any backups are getting bare scraps (or Curtis Painter-style film viewing as their "preparation" in case they are ever needed). I get that we're locked into the premise of it's Tua or it's nothing. Even though the rules in regard to protecting the QB have been significantly strengthened over the last two decades, the last time I checked this is still a contact sport and the QB is still a marked man. This is a very dangerous game to be playing with basically no backup contingency and a QB with well known durability issues.

Skylar didn't "outplay" Teddy in 2022.  He only played because Teddy got injured.

And I think you're giving Skylar a lot of undeserved credit for 2022.  In the playoff-clinching 11-6 win against NYJ, Skylar was 20/31 for 152yds/0TD/0INT, and a passer rating of 76.3.  MIA almost won the playoff game in spite of Skylar, not because of him: his statline for that game was 18/45 for 220yds/1TD/2INT and a passer rating of 44.7.

It's basically all past history now, as Dave has indicated.

We've got to get serious and find a quality backup QB for Tua, because Snoop clearly ain't it either.

After preseason ends backups are basically ignored and run the upcoming opponents plays for the defense.

I had high hopes for him, he played great in preseason for a couple years.  But he was given several chances over multiple years in the regular season and failed miserably.  The Dolphins probably did him a favor letting him go now, perhaps he can get a backup job on another team.

Miami needs to use a top draft pick on finding a backup who could potentially replace Tua.
