Title: Steelers/Chiefs
Post by: dolphins4life on December 25, 2024, 10:27:09 am
We want the Steelers in this game for obvious reasons.

Sigh, this is another year of what might have been.  Like 2020 and 2021

I hope they are still in the race after Saturday

Barring a miracle comeback by the Steelers, it appears we are going to have to rely on Carson Wentz to get us into the playoffs.

I was reading the Dolphins' Wikipedia page.

It said that since Marino retired, they've been mired in mediocrity.

Marino took us to the playoffs 10 of his 17 seasons.

We've been six times since he retired.

The Dolphins have been to the playoffs in back-to-back seasons for the first time in a quarter-century, and 3 days ago there was a plane flying above the stadium calling to fire the GM.

Hard to complain about how few playoff appearances the Dolphins have while fans are shouting to immediately fire the guys who manage to get them there.

On another note, this is a terrible idea and I feel really bad for these guys.   I've always been a vocal opponent of Thursday night football.  But playing Sunday and then having to play Wednesday??  SHEESH!!

All 4 of these teams played on Saturday, in preparation for exactly this event.

Still against it because of the short turnaround.   I've never liked Thursday night football and think it needs to be abolished save for opening week and Thanksgiving.   And the six teams that play on Thanksgiving should have their bye week the previous Sunday

Not only that but in the Marino years the Dolphins won 8 playoff games. I think they have won 1 playoff game since.

The NBA won the viewership battle and it wasn't even close.  They are really pissed that the NFL tried to invade their day and had LeBron throwing shade at them as a result.

I hate Thursday night games, I hate the 17 game schedule, I hate all these extra games popping up as basically PPV with some streaming service ( subscribe to Sirius XM if you want football ) and I absolutely hate nfl trying to to butt in on the NBA

I wish my dumb nuggets would have won but it was great to watch them play and the NFL needs a god damn reality check because their product sucks

Please link to your ratings information. The NFL has continually won head to head so I doubt any single NBA game drew more viewers. Why do you think the NBA is being so vocal?

Not this year they didn't.   Every major media outlet is reporting it.  Here's one.

You obviously didn't read the article. It says the NBA match upside were better but more people watched the NFL.

I heard the numbers on MSNBC this morning. The NBA games averaged about 5M viewers which was 1/5 of the NFL games.

Yeah, that USA Today article said no such thing...Football will pretty much always whoop up on the NBA for viewership.

...because it's football.

The NBA should start its season on Xmas and, instead of trying to fight the NFL over the winter, just poach viewers from baseball in the summer.  Have the NBA Finals on the 4th of July.

Unfortunately, the terrible ratings for the bubble playoffs in August 2020 seem to have killed any enthusiasm for pushing the NBA season later.

As someone who loves baseball just about as much as football...and waaaay more than basketball, I don't like that plan at all. The NBA should just suck it up and be satisfied with their second class citizenship.   >:D

Meh, NBA has been putting out better product for a while now than the NFL, where every other pass play is a PI or holding call and you get 15 for sneezing on a Quarterback.

Football is my favorite sport to watch but basketball is a close second and I’ve enjoyed it much over the last 6-7 years…

I don’t like having to get Netflix for special Christmas game, or getting peacock for a wildcard game or getting this for an extra Thursday night game.

As I said the NFL needs a reality check because the Christmas games and the Thursday game was atrocious television

Well getting back on topic this was a terrible result. I think Cincinnati can beat overrated Broncos but I bet KC packs it in in in week 18, our only hope is if KC doesn’t want a division rival that nearly beat them in the playoffs

Even if that happens, we still need either:

Indianapolis to lose at least one of their last two games (Giants on the road, Jacksonville at home), because they will jump us into the Broncos position, or

The Chargers to lose both their last two games (New England and Las Vegas, both on the road)

Well broncos lost so we are still technically alive, at least another day. It is possible INDY can choke less likely that KC will beat Denver with backups

The Chargers are officially now a wild card team after winning today.

That leaves the Broncos, Colts, Dolphins and Bengals to fight over the last spot.

If the Broncos beat the Chiefs backups, the rest doesn't matter. Our only hope now is if they lose, we win out, and the Colts lose at least one game.
