Title: Zero Dolphins voted into Pro Bowl
Post by: CF DolFan on January 02, 2025, 10:17:12 am
I'm sure we will get some on there but no one was voted in. The Dolphins join the New York Jets, Tennessee Titans and New Orleans Saints as teams that didn’t have a player selected. It just shows how the rest of the country feels about the players Chris Grier has assembled. Ironically, the guy he chose  not to make an offer, Andrew Van Ginkel, was selected for the NFC.

It sounds like you're saying Pro Bowl selections are an important metric to judge a GM's success, but last year MIA had 6 Pro Bowl selections (including 4 starters, the most of any AFC team), so I'm not sure what that's supposed to tell us.  A lot of Dolphins were injured this year, I guess?

If we're going to highlight AVG as a player Grier chose not to re-sign who made the Pro Bowl, I think it would be fair to consider the outcome of all the other players Grier chose not to re-sign: Christian Wilkins, DeShon Elliott, Brandon Jones, Raekwon Davis, Eli Apple, Chase Claypool, Connor Williams, etc.  (Every player I listed is younger than AVG.)

Also worth noting: the mighty Buffalo Bills have 2 Pro Bowl selections this year, which is tied with the Jaguars & Raiders, and one fewer than the Browns.

LMAO .... it's absolutely crazy how far you will go to defend a bad perspective you have. We are in a group with the worst teams in the league. The fans of the league see us us bottom dwellers. Take that any way you want. Overall we still suck after a zillion picks and 6 years.

BTW the 2 stars we traded away, Minkah Fitzpatrick and Laremy Tunsill, were voted in as well. How are those game changing trade pics working out for us?

Minkah was ran out of town by MIA's incompetent former HC (just like he also tried to run Tua out of town).  You won't get me defending that move.

As far as Tunsil goes, it seems like you're implying you disagreed with that trade.  Is that what you're saying?

I agreed with it at the time but we obviously didn't capitalize on it. That means to me, that the person in charge didn't do a very good job. Houston has gone on to be more successful than us. Barring the current sophomore slump of CJ Stroud it will most likely continue to do so.

Probowl selection is about name recognition.  Shouldn't be used to judge coach or GM.  There are very legitimate reasons to be critical of the Dolphins GM.  This ain't one of them

Dolphins players played well last year and 6 people selected. Players didn't play well and now there are zero. Kind of hard to call it a popularity contest when Mahomes didn't get voted in and he is the most popular NFL player there is right now. This season he has been carried by his defense until here lately and fans have noticed. Seems like a direct correlation of circumstantial evidence of bad play to me.

All three quarterbacks selected had an obviously better year, it’s an anomaly though.

A better example is Zach Sieler who was statistically better than most chosen at his position, and he was snubbed.

Most players are chosen from teams that have down well all season and easily in the playoffs.  For example last year Miami was doing great until their last three games of the season, most of which was after the Pro Bowl Players were already chosen.

I'm not surprised no one from the Dolphins was picked this season - it's hard to think of someone who should realistically dislodge those chosen.

Jonnu Smith was probably the most unlucky - if he started the season in the same form he's finished it, he may have dislodged Travis Kelce. Brock Powers deserved the other TE spot after his freakish rookie season (especially considering the QBs he was working with).

Jonnu is more deserving on Kelce in terms of numbers, but I'm not naive.  Pro Bowl is a combo of stats, situational quality, exposure, popularity, etc.

Bowers and Kelce are the correct choices for the AFC.

Of course Kelce is going to be the number one choice.  The only way Jonnu has a chance is to start dating a famous celebrity.   He shows up in public with Dua Lipa on his arm, heads will start turning.
