Title: Shopping Dilemma
Post by: bsfins on January 13, 2006, 11:56:34 am
Ok, Around the middle of December I bought a MP3 player online, not on Ebay.I recieved the Mp3 player just after Christmas.Everything was fine,I gave the seller a positive rating. The Auction said it had an armband, and and a neck strap. They weren't there, but no biggie.

The person got it off some surplus website,it came from a different location.I think it's sort of like SMC,the thing Tom Bosley does info-mercials about, something like that.

Today there was a package at my front door, when I came home for lunch. It was from the company that sent the player, not the seller.I thought maybe it was the armband, and neck strap, maybe a different CD software. It was another MP3 player,it has the same memory, but it has a rubber coating, and the armband, neckstrap, everything that was listed in the auction,a slightly nicer model.

I checked Paypal to see if i had been charged for 2 mp3 players,I checked my bank account...the same $2.12 in there.I checked all my email addresses to see if I had gotten a email from someone.Nope...

I'm torn between,doing the right thing,and being a smuck.Sending the seller an Email,ETc,Etc.

Or keep the Mp3 player see if anyone contacts me about it.I have a feeling this will come back and bite me on the ass.

So do I keep the MP3 player?
any suggestions?

Well...I'm a bit of a boy scout, so I'd say send it back, or at least inquire.  I would imagine you're going to hear from someone in the near future, anyway.

You paid for the arm band, etc.  I would contact the person that sent you the second one and ask them what you should do with it.  Chances are better than not they'll tell you to keep it and enjoy.

I am big on Karma.....I would at least let them know of their mistake. If they tell you to keep it then great if not and they want it back than you will know that you did the right thing!!!!!

I'd let them know that you received a second one and tell them you'll swap the second one for the armband and neckstrap that were missing from the first one.

I started doing a little investigating...(being a private investigator).I bought it exactly 1 month ago today,I noticed that the Shipping invioce that came on my MP3 player was a photocopy of an invioce. The MP3 player that came today,is the orginal invoice. They all have UPC barcodes and such.My Mp3 player came DHL,the one that came today was US mail.I don't think he (the Seller) was double charged.

So,I think I'm going to send them an email.

PUSSIES ALL OF YOU!!!

when you get something like that it's an unexpected surprise....in this situation you didn't do ANYTHING (bad, good, or otherwise) to get that extra player...i wouldnt think kthe whole karma situation would apply here, it was THEIR  bad.  i would chalk it up to a good bounce of the ball and keep it!  i would just wait like 2 months before i start using it tho just in case they catch their error.  but if they don't get at you within 2 months its history....

You guys have got the Karma thing all backwards.  THIS IS KARMA, working in your favor.

Errors work for and against us all our lives -- take it when you get it.

Karma only applies when you purposefully do something wrong.  You have done nothing wrong, so like Dave said, karma is rewarding you for being good.   Karma doesn't only apply to bad things happening.

However, I believe karma is a sham, a fraud, and a hoax, all at the same time.

So, to answer your question, B, do the right thing and keep that sum-bitch.

Somebody paid the additional MP3 player.  Somebody is getting screwed.  At send an email.  They probably won't want to spend more money get it shipped back to them and you can keep it with a clear conscience.

"They're a big company.  They can afford it."  Compared to the homeless man on the corner YOU can afford it, so by that logic you should give him half your money.

I sent him an email yesterday, informing him that second Mp3 player was sent. The orginal one was missing the neck strap, and armband,ETc.Etc.

He responded a few minutes ago,He said he found out about the second Mp3 player being sent, and gave me a return address. He said he'll send me a free gift, for returning the Mp3 player. He told me to keep the second newer one with the extra suff.

I'd love to have a Secure digital memory card.I stole the one out of my camera for my MP3 player,I doubt that's what it will be.I'd imagine it won't be as good as the mp3 player. That's ok,I feel good about doing the right thing.(Boy,Don't I sound like a bad after school special  :-/ )

Not quite the same thing -- it was not an individual's camera -- it was a business.  Coming from a business owner, so much money changes hands that it's negligable.  You accidently get money where you shouldn't, and you end up not collecting in other areas.  It's just a cost of doing business.

Just like sometimes you buy something that sucks, and lose the receipt.  ...other times you get stsuff for free.  It's the circle of capitalistic life.

Lil_B...I hope the Gods of Karma look beneath your elegant/velvety exterior to the big heart underneath and reward you with a big bonus...but I personally think I'd have kept that 2nd player.  ;D

Right, because stealing from a business is okay.   ::)

I'm not saying that stealing is okay.  I'm saying that benefiting from an individual and a business isn't the same thing.  Besides, it's not stealing.

Its not stealing.  No one walked into their warehouse after hours wearing a buglar's mask and took one out and sped away.  They sent it to him.  They sent it because he ordered it.  They screwed up, and alot of times, they might even say "you know, keep it".

It happens all the time.  Its not stealing, no one did anything wrong.
