Title: Arbitration updates for Red Sox:
Post by: MaineDolFan on January 18, 2006, 06:53:13 am
Guillermo Mota avoided arbitration by signing a one year deal with the Sox at 3 million.  Not a bad bump in pay from last year's 2.6 million - especially when you take into account that last year he slipped (injuries and such).

Bronson Arroyo and Josh Beckett are both headed to the hearings.  Arroyo is still expected to sign a three year deal soon, which might mean his bags are packed for Seattle.  His current contract isn't trade friendly, a three year deal would be.  Rumors still floating around that Arroyo for Reed is in the pipe line.

Beckett should also be tendered a one year deal and this is one I just don't get.  The amount of talent that the Sox gave up for Beckett and they are taking a "wait and see" attitude before locking him up?  Why take a Wade Miller approach with Beckett?

Curious enough - no player ever went to arbitration on Theo's watch.

And should Boston want to trade Arroyo to Seattle, what are they looking for in return ?

Odd,but the Cubs haven't headed to the arbitrator since 1994 when Andy Mcphail became president.Jim Hendry Cubs GM,stated a couple of times, that we may in the near future.

I don't think we will this year...We don't seem to be too far apart.Pierre seems to be th farthest apart.

Looks like a player with a major upside.

Reed is highly touted.  Had a tough guy last year in the big show, but came on towards the end of the season.

Arroyo is no slouch himself.  He's a 30 start a year guy that pitches well out of the bullpen, too.  Innings eater, ERA lowers every year.  And he's 28.  I would rather give up Clement than Arroyo, honestly.

I've mentioned this to Maine on a couple of occasions in the past...but I love Jeremy Reed. I only wish the Padres could deal for the guy.
