Title: You're the GM - San Diego Chargers
Post by: Dave Gray on February 16, 2006, 02:50:34 pm
You've got a stud RB and a couple of hot QBs.  What are your main priorities this offseason?

GO!

I trade Philip Rivers to Miami for Eddie Moore, straight up.  That may solve none of my problems or address any of my needs, but the Dolphins would think me a really swell guy.  ;D

They need some serious receiver help. Gates cannot do it all in the receiver department.

I think you should trade LaDanian Tomlinson for compensatory expansion draft picks

::)

* Trade Rivers or Brees, preferably for O-linemen, receivers or draft picks.

* Draft heavy in those two areas, and maybe even pick up an extra LB later.

* Sign FA WR Antwaan Randle El...a perfect fit as a complementary receiver to Gates over the middle. Randle El also has all the gimmick play ability as well, which fits into the Bolts' normal game-planning.

* Re-sign your monster fullback, Lorenzo Neal. Hey L.T., go ask Eddie George how it feels to go from running behind Neal to running without him.

* Hire a team psychologist that can keep all those talented players on an even keel, rather than looking like supermen one week and Jerry's kids the next. Obviously, the motivational aspects of coaching are lost on Schottenheimer.

* Wear the powder blue uniforms every available opportunity.

I'd like to nominate JVides immediately for the Chargers' GM position!

I agree. This would be the difference maker and take them to the next level. Those unis are so sweet.

Fire Marty Schottenheimer

That's the best thing they could do...

What do you guys think about this:

Did Miami beat San Diego this year? Or did San Diego choke?

Leaning towards Miami beating SD.   ;D

Now,  Buffalo,  they choked.

Upgrading the offensive line is always a plus. When you have the best RB in the league, it only makes sense to give him support. Trading Rivers would be the best thing right now. They'll be a number of teams looking for a QB (Arizone, Detroit, Jets, New Orleans, Miami), and considering options available this year (maybe three first round QBs, not a lot of talent, free agency likely won't provide much), you'll get good value for him. Randle El would be a good pickup, but they would need a true #1. I don't see Ranle El as that. They have a #2 and a #3. T.O. would hurt this team more than help. Then it's a matter of upgrading the defense.  San Diego is in a pretty good position right now. Remember, they have the cap room to keep two big QB contracts, so getting rid of one provides even more help.

What do y'all think about Lorenzo Neal becoming a Dolphin? Neal, plus an Oline stud like Hutchison from Seattle might lead to a nasty Dolphins running attack in 06. Just a pipe dream, but a nice one...

I'd have no problem with that pipe dream, but sort of like in the Ray Lewis thread, I only wish Miami would have gotten Lorenzo several years ago when the dude was still in his prime. He's still an effective FB, but he isn't the linebacker-crushing machine he was just a few years ago.

Speakin' of FBs... why did we let go of Heath Evans? I never understood that. Doesn't the guy we have now kinda blow anyway?
