Title: Movie Review: A Beautiful Mind
Post by: Dave Gray on February 18, 2006, 12:04:40 pm
Premise: True story of John Nash, a brilliant mathematician suffering from schizophrenia.  Unable to stay away from his pursuit of solutions to his mathematical theories, he is haunted by what's in his own head.

Rating: Very Good

I hate Russel Crowe, but he's great in this.  This a partially true story, but big pieces of the guy were left out -- he had other personalities, involving racism and homosexuality, but they were left out of this telling of his life, because it would be too difficult and complex to fit on film and still work.  If those inaccuracies are going to bother you, you should probably find something else to watch.  However, this was a pretty moving film, and they did a good job of building relationships between him and his wife, friends, and imaginary friends.

I really liked the supporting role that Ed Harris played in John Nash's delusions...that may have been  my favorite part.  I've seen this 4 or 5 times now, and it really is an excellent movie.

I saw that you rated this movie 1 star -- if you only saw half of it, I don't really think that's fair, since most of the meaning of what you initially watched means something totally different after certain things are revealed.

If the movie weren't boring I would've stayed awake through it, though.  Movies that I fall asleep in automatically get 1 star.  I tried to watch it twice and couldn't make it through it.
