Title: You're the GM - Arizona Cardinals Post by: jtex316 on February 21, 2006, 11:01:09 pm Oh yeah baby! You...yes, YOU, have just been hired by the good old Arizona Cardinals.
Man, what a job you have ahead of yourself. You have a very old QB, well past his glory days (which was all of 2 seasons), a couple of good young-to-medium experience NFL receivers, shit-for-shit running backs, a trully pathetic defensive unit...AND THE BEST KICKER IN ALL OF FOOTBALL BABY!!!!!!!!!!! Your head coach is also a fat over-rated piece of crap who couldn't coach himself out of a wet paper bag. To make matters worse, you've just been told you're going to be playing at a brand new stadium, which is an hour across Arizona, damn near the outer reaches of the freaking desert, dangerously close to being in Tijuana!! :) So, what the hell do you do to FINALLY, FINALLY...once and for all, turn Arizona from the ultimate laughing stock in NFL history, to a team that can actually make a run at it, in a medium-strength conference?? Title: Re: You're the GM - Arizona Cardinals Post by: Dave Gray on February 21, 2006, 11:48:12 pm I think that the RB situation in Arizona is going to be okay. I think you need to get a QB to build around, and start working on defense. I don't think that the Cardinals are as bad as they were.
Title: Re: You're the GM - Arizona Cardinals Post by: YoFuggedaboutit on February 22, 2006, 08:27:15 am I would draft a QB, but keep Kurt Warner around to mentor him. As for RB, I would do whatever it takes to sign edge. I would also tell Leonard Davis to get his fat ass in the weight room this offseason or be cut.
Title: Re: You're the GM - Arizona Cardinals Post by: AZ Fins Fan 55 on February 22, 2006, 02:09:02 pm I would not even think of drafting anything other than a top tier RB at this point. The Cardinals passing game...although not great was a solid passing unit. Boldin and Fitgerald carried this team all season. It was the running game that hurt this team bottom line. They need to draft Williams or White and get some help on the offensive line. The defense was injury ridden most of the season last year and I think you will see a different product on the field this year if they can maintain some shread of health on the defensive side. Warner can get you through another season if he stays healthy and in the meantime depending on how the draft goes you need to get serious about grooming John Navarre or another young QB that you pick up in the later rounds of the draft. No high priced free agent RB will come to AZ and that is just how I see it. The running game is your biggest issue right now!!!!!

He has said he'd like to go to Green Bay(close to home) or Arizona, since Dennis Green drafted him. I wonder if they might do that, so they can address other needs.

Anything is possible really but the talk around here (and mind you it is just talk) is that the Cards are really high on Lendale. Williams name is also being thrown around. They very well could take a QB but I really feel that come April there will be a new RB in town given that Warner just signed an extension and that Green is somewhat pleased with him!!!!! Title: Re: You're the GM - Arizona Cardinals Post by: Sunstroke on February 22, 2006, 08:12:53 pm * If Daunte projects a full recovery, make a deal for Daunte NOW! Arizona needs a good strong-armed QB to take advantage of Boldin & Fitzgerald, and Culpepper could do that. How lucky would that make Daunte? Have a great thing with Randy for a few years, lose Randy and drop like a rock, and then get traded to a team with Larry and 'Quan. What kind of karma points do you need for that kind of luck? Throw a second this year and a conditional second next year on the table and watch how fast the Vikes deal him. * Get somebody to spend time this offseason working with their 4 blue chip young defensive stars-in-waiting, Antrel Rolle and Adrian Wilson in the backfield and Darnell Dockett and Karlos Dansby up front. Sign Adrian Wilson to a lifetime contract or trade him to the 49ers, because Adrian is a baaaaaad man. If those 4 guys develop and this defense takes a sharp jump up, the Cardinals could pull a Bengals on the league. (Nah...What the hell am I thinking? These are the Cardinals. Never mind...) * Throw a high offer at one particular FA, pro bowl C, LaCharles Bentley. Want to improve that inconsistent line and stabilize your offense? Start in the middle with LaCharles Bentley...the dude is a rock. Trust me, Kurt Warner and *** will thank you every game if you do. * The *** above belongs to the #10 pick in the draft, and the player who will go down as the best RB in franchise history 15-20 years from now...DeAngelo Williams. I know, I know..."LenDale in Glendale" sounded bitchin', but Williams is a better fit. Where White runs harder between the tackles and is a slightly better red zone back, Williams is light-years ahead of the Trojan in pass protection/blitz pickup as well as running to the edge. The latter being particularly important, given AZ's elite WR duo. When you line two good WRs to one side (quan-larry, harrison-wayne, Rice-owens) and run them both on posts and/or slants, it drags the defense away from that corner and allows a runner who is quick to the edge to find a huge amount of space. * Assuming AZ has to give up its 2nd rounder for Culpepper, spend at least 5 other picks on OG/OT/LB. You need depth at LB and O-line, and what you don't get in FA, you need to get prospects for in the draft. Title: Re: You're the GM - Arizona Cardinals Post by: TEKGOD on February 23, 2006, 12:15:50 pm Draft a young QB to groom & work on that defense. AZ should have went after Dom Capers or Jim Haslett for DC. Despite their record they always finish in the top 8 in offense so no problems there. They need to get some big DTs & LBs who can roam well to cover the field better. Any money left needs to be spent the line & defense. The skills positions on offense are good for now.
