In cap move, Dolphins release tackle McIntosh By Alex Marvez sun-sentinel.com Posted March 1 2006, 3:21 PM EST The Dolphins made their first major offseason roster move to get under the 2006 salary cap Wednesday by releasing left tackle Damion McIntosh. McIntosh had started the past 30 games for the Dolphins, but was due to earn $4.425 million in salary in 2006 with a cap number of $4.48 million. That was too much for a Dolphins team that ESPN reported is at least $19 million over the 2006 cap, which ultimately will be set between $92 million and $95 million. The Dolphins could have gotten some cap relief if the NFL and its players union reached agreement on a new labor pact. But such a deal now appears unlikely to happen after negotiations between the two sides broke off Tuesday. That will force teams with cap problems like the Dolphins to releasing a slew of veteran players to get under the cap by the NFL-mandated deadline of 4 p.m. Thursday. The free-agent signing period is scheduled to begin Friday. Title: Re: Bye,Bye McIntosh.... Post by: gocowboys31 on March 01, 2006, 03:47:37 pm I called this after he beatdown his wife.
say hello to winston justice at pick #16 Title: in addition to D Mac Post by: Predatory_Fins on March 01, 2006, 06:03:14 pm In addition to the release of tackle Damion McIntosh, the Miami Dolphins also terminated the contracts of cornerbacks Reggie Howard and Sam Madison, and safety Tebucky Jones.
Madison played his entire nine-year career with the Dolphins. Unlike Madison, the tenures of Howard and Jones were a lot shorter. Howard started his two-year run under Dave Wannstedt in 2004. Jones signed on prior to this past season, but only played in six games due to injury Title: Re: in addition to D Mac Post by: Philly Fin Fan on March 01, 2006, 06:09:18 pm Nothing surprising here. I think these were all expected cuts. I merged both the threads about players being cut.

Title: Re: All threads about Cut Players merged Post by: Philly Fin Fan on March 01, 2006, 06:15:45 pm Cutting McIntosh saved us $3.8 million against the cap, cutting Tebucky Jones saved another $6.5 million.

He and most others on this board already did, poor headbutt >:( Title: Re: All threads about Cut Players merged Post by: DolFan619 on March 01, 2006, 09:58:16 pm None of these cuts are surprising. I'm especially glad we're rid of Reggie Howard. Now, the question is who will play opposite of Schulters at the safety position. Will it be Bell, a rookie, or some free agent?

Title: Re: All threads about Cut Players merged Post by: Dave Gray on March 02, 2006, 01:27:49 am The Jared Lazareth / Herald Stagg should be ashamed of themselves. Who lets something like that go to print. It's missing a noun!
Title: Re: All threads about Cut Players merged Post by: YoFuggedaboutit on March 02, 2006, 07:34:32 am Lorenzo Diamond was also released today. WTF??? Why did they get rid of him? He seemed to be adjusting well in Saban's blocking TE scheme!!! Title: Re: All threads about Cut Players merged Post by: Predatory_Fins on March 02, 2006, 08:01:16 am all I'll say is of those cut so far, I wish sam madison the best, he spent his whole career in aqua and orange, and I hope the dude is successful wherever he turns up next. How messed up would it be if he went to KC, and then they had essentially our secondary(knight, madison, surtain)

I'll be sad to see Sam go, but I won't miss his personal fouls for mouthing off at the refs.Title: Re: All threads about Cut Players merged Post by: YoFuggedaboutit on March 02, 2006, 09:31:55 am There's a slim chance Sam will be back after a big pay cut, but not likely. I'll be sad to see Sam go, but I won't miss his personal fouls for mouthing off at the refs. It all depends on whether or not the NFLPA and the Commish can get this CBA deal done. If it's done, we'll have the cap room to bring him back. Title: Re: All threads about Cut Players merged Post by: bsfins on March 02, 2006, 10:06:48 am I have No qualms about Sam being Cut....I feel he's going to find it a bit Cold out there in the open market...He felt wronged the last time he took a pay cut,he stated that he wouldn't take a pay cut...So...bye bye....
Quick clarification....I think he wont have a big problem getting a job,but I feel he thinks he's more than he really is... Title: Re: All threads about Cut Players merged Post by: AZ Fins Fan 55 on March 02, 2006, 12:53:02 pm Reggie is gone........it's about fucking time. I am kind of sad to see Sam go however. I know why we let him go but I hate to see players leave that I have liked for so long!!!!!
Title: Re: All threads about Cut Players merged Post by: raptorsfan29 on March 02, 2006, 12:56:05 pm how much have we saved as of now, how much do we need to go before we are under
Title: Re: All threads about Cut Players merged Post by: mcduff81 on March 02, 2006, 12:58:46 pm Sam has been my favorite player for a long time..but we sure as hell won't miss his tackling(or lackthereof).
Saban, like Bellechik(my God I can't spell his name) likes physical, all purpose corners. Â Sam is definitely not that. Title: Re: All threads about Cut Players merged Post by: Phishfan on March 02, 2006, 12:58:54 pm According to ESPN was have saved 14,400,000 with the four cuts.

Dolphins Release Junior Seau March 6, 2006 The Miami Dolphins today terminated the contract of linebacker Junior Seau. In addition, the club announced that it waived tight end Lorenzo Diamond. “One of the most difficult parts of my job is having to release players, and the past week has emphasized this fact,†said Dolphins Head Coach Nick Saban. “This is especially true when those players made significant contributions to the success of the team in the past. Ideally, we would like to keep many of those players on our roster, but we are simply not able to do that.†Seau, a veteran of 16 NFL seasons, spent the last three years with the Dolphins after being acquired in a 2003 trade with San Diego, with whom he spent the first 13 years of his career (1990-2002). Last year with Miami, he played in seven games before being placed on injured reserve with an Achilles injury on November 24. |
