Title: Sorry to see Madison go. Post by: Dave Gray on March 01, 2006, 11:29:08 pm I wish we could find a way to keep Madison. I guess he'll be able to help a team more than us, though.
I think that Tebucky Jones was no help on defense. McIntosh was outright bad, and we needed to look somewhere else, not to mention his cost. As for Reggie Howard, we all saw that coming. I think it sucks to let good players go, and I think that Madison is a good player (no longer great). You can't put him on an island against the studs of the league anymore, but he can hold his own. Hopefully, we'll be able to work something out. Title: Re: Sorry to see Madison go. Post by: Jim Gray on March 02, 2006, 10:51:41 am I'm also sorry to see him go. Despite the penalties, he was an above average defensive back, maybe in the top 1/3. The problem is the money. He's just not worth it. That said, there are other players like JT that are also making too much. I love JT, but when one player is making 12% of the total salary pool, there's a problem.
I understand why we need the cap, but I don't like what it's doing to teams. Once superstar players get to a certain age, just beyond their peak.........it's very difficult for a team to keep them. Title: Re: Sorry to see Madison go. Post by: JVides on March 02, 2006, 11:40:37 am I'm sad to see Madison go, too. He no longer had great deep speed, but he was always in position, and saved other people in the secondary from looking foolish on many occasions (like when he'd peel off his coverage to help out in a place where he knew the ball was going). Great instincts. Too bad his speed started to slip.

Well, when there's only 5 guys in the entire league that can rush the passer like he does, I guess he earns a premium for those services. Title: Re: Sorry to see Madison go. In fact Zach and J.T. will probably restructure. Zach already said he's willing too. As far as Sam goes, it's sad too see him leave, but it was sad too see Patrick leave as well. However, life will go on without Sam just like it did without Surtain. Title: Re: Sorry to see Madison go. Post by: AZ Fins Fan 55 on March 02, 2006, 12:57:59 pm I too am sad to see Sam go. He has played his whole career here and I hate to lose players like that. I was hoping he would restructure and still be a member of this team. Hopefully they can work something out. He may not be the best out there but he might be better than what we get stuck with as well. Much like Dolfan619 said it was really hard to part with Pat after last season as well but that is the business. I wish you the best Sam, thanks for all the years you have given us!!!!! :'(
Title: Re: Sorry to see Madison go. Post by: Brian Fein on March 02, 2006, 04:10:46 pm Does anyone think Sam is pissed cause he thinks his buddy Pat got a raw deal and wants to leave? Maybe he's using this "I refuse to restructure" as a ticket out, and will take less money elsewhere, especially in KC....?

Now it's being reported that Sam was willing to restructure in order to stay a Dolphin. 'Course, his agent is Drew "Next Question" Rosenhaus, so this could be posturing. Title: Re: Sorry to see Madison go. Post by: Househead on March 02, 2006, 04:20:35 pm I liked Madison, but we all know he is past his prime, is not getting younger and we need to move on. I'm just concerned about the status of our secondary as welet both him and Howard go and we already had a subpar defensive backfield to start with. Saban will have to address that big-time. I hope Poole can finally stay injury free and step-up this year.
On a side note since someone brought of Surtain, I wonder how and if the chiefs can restructure his deal since I believe that team is big time over the cap. Title: Re: Sorry to see Madison go. Post by: TEKGOD on March 02, 2006, 06:34:54 pm I liked Madison, but we all know he is past his prime, is not getting younger and we need to move on. Exactly. A heartfelt thanks to Sam I Am, but he's been on the decline the last 2 years. It wasn't easy but its the right move. He was clearly exposed as the robin to Surtain's batman, & is far from a shutdown corner. If he was willing to accept a #2 corners money Id say keep him, but Saban opts for yourth - which at this point is the right move. Title: Re: Sorry to see Madison go. I would be okay at starting two up and comers, but we're asking for trouble if we are banking that they stay healthy, with no viable backup plan. It makes sense for us to keep Madison, if we can get the price right. |
