Title: If I was the GM... Post by: JMoney13 on March 05, 2006, 05:48:20 pm This is what I would do:
Re-sign: WR Bryan Gilmore HB Travis Minor (Ricky Insurance) RB Sammy Morris QB Sage Rosenfels FS Lance Schulters SS Yeremiah Bell Trade: Gus Frerotte to the Ravens for a 5th round pick (instead of outright releasing him) Sign Free Agents: QB Patrick Ramsey (Redskins) FB Mack Strong (Seahawks), or Fred Beasley (49ers), or Tony Richardson (Chiefs) Whichever comes as more cap friendly, though Strong will probably be re-signed. C LeCharles Bentley (Saints) CB Ty Law (Jets) SS Adam Archuleta (Rams) Draft: 1st: OT Eric Winston (Miami FL) Jay Cutler, Michael Huff, and Jimmy Williams will all be gone. 2nd: QB Brodie Croyle (Alabama) 3rd: CB Kelly Jennings (Miami FL) 4th: LB Abdul Hodge (Iowa) 5th, 6th, 7th: Draft for depth I'm not really taking the salary cap into consideration, but this is what I would want to see happen. Title: Re: If I was the GM... Post by: Philly Fin Fan on March 05, 2006, 06:33:00 pm 5th, 6th, 7th: Draft for depth As of right now we don't own a 6th round pick. We gave it up as part of the Lemon deal. (we also gave up our 5th rounder in the supplemental draft last year for Wright, but you said we would trade for Baltimore's 5th). We also have 3 7th rounders to work with. Title: Re: If I was the GM... Post by: JMoney13 on March 05, 2006, 07:12:14 pm Thanks for pointing that out. I couldn't find anywhere online that I could see what picks we have.
Title: Re: If I was the GM... Post by: YoFuggedaboutit on March 05, 2006, 08:00:44 pm I would:
Re-sign: QB Sage Rosenfels FS Lance Schulters (Bell and Jackson have already been tendered as exclusive rights players) I would offer disGUSting to anyone who would be willing to spend a 5th or 6th rounder on a capable backup. Probably ask for a conditional 6th. Sign Free Agents: QB Brian Griese (Bucs) FB Mack Strong (Seahawks) C LeCharles Bentley (Saints) G Steve Hutchinson (Seahawks) CB Ty Law (Jets) SS Adam Archuleta (Rams) OT Jon Runyan (Eagles) Draft: 1st: OT Winston Justice (USC), although I think Huff or Williams will slide to us. Take them if they are there 2nd: QB Brodie Croyle (Alabama) 3rd: LB AJ Nicholson (FSU) 4th: CD Devin Hester (Miami) 5th, 6th, 7th: Draft for depth. Title: Re: If I was the GM... Post by: MUCPhin on March 05, 2006, 10:09:28 pm those would be great signings, but do we have nearly enough money? i'm not sure if we do...
Title: Re: If I was the GM... Post by: TonyB0D on March 05, 2006, 10:14:14 pm i like the idea of trading gus for picks, but that wont happen as no one would want to assume his HUGE contract. if he just gets outright cut, then teams will negotiate an appropriate contract for him.
Title: Re: If I was the GM... Post by: jtex316 on March 06, 2006, 09:08:50 am I personally would trade Ronnie Brown and Jason Taylor for some late-round compensatory draft selections, and undisclosed amounts of cash, TBA.
Title: Re: If I was the GM... Post by: Phishfan on March 06, 2006, 10:03:39 am I am disturbed by all of the mention of Croyle. There is no way I want him in a Dolphin uniform.

There is no way I want him in a Dolphin uniform. Why not? I can definitely see him flourishing in the NFL. How would you want this to play out, assuming you had to draft a QB? Croyle or Whitehurst in the 2nd (because neither one of them will last longer than that) OR Wait until a later round and get Drew Olsen, Omar Jacobs, or DJ Shockley I'd love to hear your opinion on this. Title: Re: If I was the GM... Post by: mcduff81 on March 07, 2006, 07:36:52 am QB Brian Griese (Bucs) FB Mack Strong (Seahawks) C LeCharles Bentley (Saints) G Steve Hutchinson (Seahawks) CB Ty Law (Jets) SS Adam Archuleta (Rams) OT Jon Runyan (Eagles) ??? Why not add Terrell Owens, Edgerrin James, and any other Free Agent we can't afford? We should just sign/trade for every member of the Steelers to make us immediate contenders..and of course trade one our 7th rounders for Brady, and he and Roethlisberger can compete for the job in camp? Sing Brees. He is 27. Then we should do what we can to try and restructure Gus's contract. If we cannot, sign another cheap veteran. If we do sign Brees, I don't see us drafting a QB, especially in the 2nd round. I think Saban goes with Brees, a veteran, and Lemon into the season. Title: Re: If I was the GM... Croyle or Whitehurst in the 2nd (because neither one of them will last longer than that) OR Wait until a later round and get Drew Olsen, Omar Jacobs, or DJ Shockley I'd love to hear your opinion on this. Croyle's history of injury problems is too much for me to take. How long has it been since we had a staring QB able to play a full schedule? 2001 so that no one has to look it up. That is too long in my opinion. I cannot warrant a second round pick on an injury prone QB when that has been our recent history. I would wait until later to look at Jacobs is my personal theory. Croyle is going to be a gamble and I would much rather gamble later on a player with Jacobs' potential than gamble sooner with my expectations of Croyle. I wanted to modify to say this is if we are not able to pull anything out of free agency. Title: Re: If I was the GM... Title: Re: If I was the GM... Post by: Phishfan on March 07, 2006, 10:28:39 am I have some concerns about that as well Philly. People say he will be ready, but they said that abour Pennington as well. Remember, this is his free agent year. His agent is not going to let any negative reports slip out. Only the Dolphins' physicians are really going to be able to tell how that shoulder is.

I keep comparing him to Pennington's injury as well, and some people say "Pennington rushed back, Brees is ahead of schedule." But like you said, who is telling us he's ahead of schedule? His agent. |
