Title: March 13 Post by: Philly Fin Fan on March 12, 2006, 08:46:18 pm Wow. I just read something interesting on Finheaven. Tomorrow is the 6 year anniversary of Marino's retirement. How wild would it be if we signed Brees tomorrow?
Title: Re: March 13 Post by: Sunstroke on March 12, 2006, 09:49:07 pm I would say that it's not only possible, but probable. Drew's agent (Poston) is coming down here tomorrow, so a good chance of it happening.
Modified to add: here is the complete blog entry from Clayton on Brees... The Drew Brees saga dragged on when he left New Orleans on Sunday afternoon and flew to Miami after promising Dolphins coach Nick Saban that he would pay a visit. Brees seems firm in wanting a $10 million-a-year contract after turning down a six-year, $50 million free-agent offer from the Chargers. The Saints are the closest to meeting the quarterback's demands. The Dolphins aren't offering as much in guarantees as New Orleans, and they seem to have dug in on not doing that with Brees coming off shoulder surgery. Brees is the top choice of the Dolphins but not for the guarantees he is seeking. He might be able to get them from the Saints. Nick Saban may have to hold off until Monday to make a decision on this front. Here's the situation: He can sign Brees or he can trade for Daunte Culpepper. The Vikings aren't as adamant about asking for a second-round choice that could upgrade to a No. 1, but they want a second-round draft pick. They won't let Culpepper have a doctor's visit with the Dolphins, only allowing him to talk on the phone with Miami. The Dolphins are holding up the bulk of their aggressive offseason work until they resolve their quarterback situation. In the next 24 hours, their quarterback will be either Culpepper or Brees. Saban has already gone overtime on this one. Title: Re: March 13 Post by: Brian Fein on March 12, 2006, 10:13:14 pm I say F culpepper, let's go full-bore for Brees!

ESPN.com's John Clayton reports free agent QB Drew Brees (Chargers) put off contract negotiations with the Miami Dolphins until Tuesday, March 14. Brees left Miami Monday evening, March 13, for Birmingham, Ala., where he's rehabbing his right shoulder under the watchful eye of Dr. James Andrews, who performed the operation in January. Contract talks between the Dolphins and Brees' agent, Tom Condon, did not take place because Brees spent the day undergoing a battery of doctors' tests. The Dolphins and Brees are stuck on the amount of guaranteed money Brees should receive. Miami is wary of guaranteeing $10 million of his contract after he came off shoulder surgery Title: Re: March 13 Post by: YoFuggedaboutit on March 13, 2006, 10:37:29 pm I guess it won't be today.... Miami is wary of guaranteeing $10 million of his contract after he came off shoulder surgery I agree with the Dolphins position. I would give him the opportunity to earn the difference as a performance bonus. That way, it will give him the incentive to rehab well. Title: Re: March 13 Post by: fyo on March 14, 2006, 09:42:58 am Let's say he wants $10M guaranteed. I wouldn't mind giving him more, say $12M, but spread it out so that he gets half now and half as a roster bonus next season.
We'll have to pay him more over the length of the contract if we want him to come down from a large signing bonus. It's insurance (for us), but well worth it IMHO. Title: Re: March 13 Post by: NoFish on March 14, 2006, 01:00:35 pm Tommy...about as LAME as anyone gets! ::)
