I guess since C-Pep deal went thru, Brees had no other choice.

Brees agreed to a six-year, $60 million deal with the New Orleans Saints on Tuesday. The deal includes a $10 million signing bonus.

Miami coach Nick Saban revisited the trade talks with the Vikings on Monday, after Dolphins officials determined that the contract demands of Brees were more than they wanted to invest.

Brees is coming off January surgery to repair a torn labrum and also a partially torn rotator cuff in his right shoulder. The Dolphins spent much of Monday putting Brees, who is currently rehabilitating the shoulder in Birmingham, Ala., under renowned orthopedist Dr. James Andrews, through a lengthy battery of tests. It is not known how much the results of those tests entered into the decision to pursue Culpepper instead.

Early in his career, there were questions about Drew Brees having a slow release.

That wasn't the case Tuesday when he pulled the trigger on a six-year, $60 million deal with the New Orleans Saints that included a $10 million signing bonus.

Brees' decision came within seconds of the Dolphins dropping out of the bidding when they traded a second-round choice for Daunte Culpepper. All along, the Saints had more money and more guarantees on the table for Brees and wanted to use his name as the marquee for ticket sales, sales that have been hot because of the Saints' return to New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.

Even though the Saints will be looking at Matt Leinart in the draft, they have Brees as their starting quarterback. That puts the Saints in the position to possible trade down from the No. 2 spot and take defensive end Mario Williams or simply take the North Carolina State defensive end.

Brees comes to New Orleans with high recommendations. Cowboys coach Bill Parcells has always been a big fan of Brees and advised his former assistant, Sean Payton, to take Brees if he had the chance. Payton is the new coach of the Saints.

Brees rejected the Dolphins' idea of lowering his demands for guarantees because the Saints made a promise to his agent, Tom Condon. In the end, Brees didn't budge and he ended up going to the Saints.

He will be regretting this decision when the season starts. The Saints are terrible and I really hope that he will enjoy all his money while sitting in the cellar for the remainder of his career!!!!

I would've probably taken the money too if I was unsure about my shoulder.  Cash in now better than later.

Exactly. Like I have said in other posts no one can for sure know what is going on with that shoulder. Brees may already know he is close to being done so this is his only shot at any money from the NFL.

Good luck Drew,  ya shoulda stopped listening to the wife.  Enjoy the  $$$ 'cause playoffs are the last thing you're gonna see there. 

I do agree that he was probably unsure about the shoulder and that he was only looking out for himself in the long run,  but from a football standpoint...  sheeesh.

You dolphin fans need to stop hating. Brees did the right thing and took the best offer, screw miami because they wouldnt meet his finicial demands. Now miami surrender's a second round pick for  QB who cant even walk right now. Saban you lost this poker game.!!!!!!

I really think Brees was bluffing and he woulda signed with the Dolphins on their terms in a few days.  I think he was trying to maximize the cash. 

The Dolphins couldn't wait, so Brees ends up in New Orleans.

I suppose you prefer a QB who can't even throw right now then? You people are making too much out of a QB's knee. There are no guarantees when Brees will begin throwing. At least Daunte can throw.

By trading for Culpepper, the Dolphins pretty much told Brees what they could do with his monetary demands.  Actions speak louder than words.

Once brees left without signing, saban knew he had to make a move. Because if he lets the saints get brees, and oakland gets culpepper saban has to come crawling back to gus after he tried to jettison him. Basically saban had to leave the poker table with something instead of leaving empty handed.

     That's funny, a Cowboys fan making fun of somebody's QB situation.  Listen junior, you guys haven't exactly had the cream of the crop yourselves the past few seasons.  Here are a few of the "who's who" of Cowgirls signal callers since Aikman hung it up.

- Quincy Carter, Ryan Leaf, Clint Stoerner, Tony Homo, Drew Henson, Vinny Testaverde, Anthony, Wright, Drew Bledsoe, and Randall Cunningham.  Say what you want about Randall but he was clearly a shell of his former self in Dallas.

How much did they give the Texans for the rights to overrated bum Drew Henson?

Brees made a good decision.  If your shoulder was obliterated, you want to take the maximum cash you can.  You very well may not be playing in two years.

Your added attempts at bashing take away any creidbility you may have. Remember, Brees previously left the Saints without signing...to visit Miami. Miami was in the drivers seat and did not care for the test drive.
