Title: You're the Free Agent- FS Lance Schulters
Post by: DolFan619 on March 15, 2006, 09:58:29 pm
Okay your Dolphins FS Lance Schulters.  You're an unrestricted free agent again, certainly not in unfamilier territory.  Last year you came off a foot injury and many teams were unwilling to sign you because of your current injury.  So you decide to sign a one year deal with Coach Saban and the Miami Dolphins.  You took the deal as an oppurtunity to prove yourself to others that you could still play.

You did just that, by delivering hard hitting, and jarring blows.  You gave quarterbacks fits of frustration, most notably Carolina Panthers QB Jake Delhomme.  You intercepted him during a crucial drive which helped close the game for the Dolphins and propelled them to a 2-1 record before the bye week.  That game saving interception also earned you AFC Defensive Player of the Week.  An award that you had never seen in your career before.

Now that you proved yourself to be a player in the league again, do you try to break the bank one more time in free agency?

OR

Do you resign with the team and the head coach that believed you could do it all a long, and believed that you never lost a step.  A team that just traded for marquee Quarterback Daunte Culpepper.  A team that's going to have a very young secondary, which would provide a great oppurtunity for you to mold these young men in your image and teach them to play with same fire and passion that you learned growing up on the streets of Brooklyn, and still take with you on the field today.

You're the free agent, you're Lance Schulters, what do you do?  GO!

I'd re-sign with the team that believed in me.... but I would ask for a long term deal.

Honestly, I think Schulters needs to cash in.  He probably won't be a long term solution here -- and at least not a high-priced one.  There is no loyalty in this league.  Schulters has the opportunity to set his family up for life, and needs to take it.  I'd probably be a mercenary and go to whatever major franchise could offer me the best deal.  If Miami's deal is close --- maybe not a match, but similar, I'd stay here.
