Title: Vikings intended to get rid of Daunte all along
Post by: YoFuggedaboutit on March 22, 2006, 12:59:31 pm
I had a feeling that the Vikings wanted to get rid of Culpepper when they named Childress head coach. This link, which I got off DolphinBlog.com confirms my suspicions:

Here's Bob Flanders' opinion on it:

Can you imagine Jimmy Johnson treating Dan Marino like this when Jimmy came to town? Hell no! The franchise quarterback is considered the most important employee in the organization and you treat them that way. Coaches come and go--- Franchise QB's don't.

Childress came in with his ego a smokin and he wanted to let everyone know, including Daunte, that he was the new bad ass in town. I think this will bite him in the ass for years to come-- as a matter of fact, his statement the other day that Daunte was all about the money and a lot like T.O, was Childress way of covering his ass in case this does come back to chomp his ass--- AKA- Daunte in the 2007 Pro Bowl.

The only reason Childress didn't give Daunte the playbook is because he knew that the Vikes were going to dump Daunte. AND then to move things along, he sends Daunte a my-way-or-the-highway e-mail totally void of the respect that Daunte deserved. Daunte saw the wrting on the wall and had no choice but to say, "FUCK YOU, TRADE ME!!!!"

Bottom line--- this is about Brad Childress's ego and new owner, Zygi Wilfs tightly drawn purse strings

Isn't this exactly what happened, though?? Don Shula had a great personal and on the field relationship with Dan Marino, and then when JJ came in, didn't him and Marino feud because of Jimmy Johnson's ego, demands, shake-ups, and so on?

At least they managed to keep it under wraps until the very end.

What? This is a team that paid a gajillion dollars to a guard. I don't think Wilf has shown any "tightly drawn purse strings".

Boy, that dolphinsblog is some really great journalism.  It's amazing no major media outlet has paid big bucks to pick it up.

I really don't care what, when how, or why the Vikings didn't want Culpepper.  All that matters is that they were stupid enough to let him go!

To say JJ treated Marino with any respect is like saying the KKK loved MLK.  It's ridiculous and a poor attempt at history revision!
