I think they got the Niners pick right...Vernon Davis is who I have SF taking at #6.

But I reeeeeally cannot see Matt Leinart sliding all the way down to #7.

You mean Vince Young?

Sorry.... when I opened the page it brought up the Apr. 5 Mock with Young going at 7.  When I reopened it later, it showed the Apr. 17 Mock with Leinert goint at 7.  Weird.

Leinart will not be chosen until the second half of the first round.

Wow, how bad would that be ? Here's a guy that had he'd come out last year surely would've #1 overall over Alex Smith.

Nice decision Matthew...

Vince Young is a hack.  When will people learn.

Is he saying the Jets don't need a QB at #4?

Who is their starer again?  Chad "spaghetti shoulder" Pennington?

They just got Ramsey. How many QB's are the going to carry ? I am sure they will be in the top 5 of the draft next year and thats what they're banking on...

I didn't even know about Ramsey.

....like I said, is he saying they don't need a QB at # 4?  :)

No chance of Matt sliding out of the top-3 picks of the first round. None...zip...zero...nada.

I would love it if it happened just like that.

Santonio Holmes to the Dolphins and Carpenter to the Panthers.

That would be sweet.

If I could only find anyone willing to make a small wager on Mattie falling out of the top-3, I'd be a bettin' man here as well. No one will though...it's a sucker bet if ever there was one.

I think it's likely that the Jets will trade up above the Titans to grab Leinart...but if all the teams play out in their spots, Leinart could drop.  I don't see the Jets passing on him at 4 though.  ...but if the Titans take Leinart, the Jets may pass on Young.

I don't see this mock as a possibility.

No way the dolphins select a WR in the first round. Speaking from the cowboys perspective, id love wimberly, but im drooling over cromartie. 6'2 210 4.3- 4.40 range in the 40. The man is a physical freak. I have miami drafting cromartie, that would be a great pick for saban IMO.

If money and pride were the sole factor then you'd have a great point.   Seems like going to a contender instead of a perennial loser just might be worth something.

He's got the Steelers picking up Lendale White.  Although White would make an excellent replacement for The Bus, I don't see him dropping that far.

In my opinion, going for a QB high has been the bane of a lot of teams. I'm suprised people still do this. The chances of first round QBs succeeding has gotten worse and worse. It's a lot of bottom feeding teams who feel the one position can change their whole team around. Let's look at the 49ers. They drafted a QB when there was nothing around him to rebuild off. Even if they got the next Dan Marino, he would still look like Joey Harrington. Plus, with QBs going so high, you're paying a lot for a player who may not work out. I just think it's a bad thing to draft QBs so high, unless you've got the supporting cast. Otherwise it won't work out.

^^^ Good call, BJL... This is why (and you can gravedig to verify) I was screaming for SF to draft Braylon Edwards at #1 last year, rather than Alex Smith. Not that I think Alex won't develop over time, but I think we would have been better off taking Braylon last year and then going after Cutler or Leinart in the first round of this year's draft. (since we have two first rounders now, that would have been possible).

Instead of Alex throwing to Vernon Davis and ?? Wr's this year, we could have had Cutler/Leinart developing with Braylon Edwards as a very nice foundation to a passing offense.

No worries...we'll have a top-3 pick next year as well.  :-\

I know you didn't like Smith, but I thought you wanted them to scoop up Aaron Rodgers.

I thought that Aaron was a better QB than Alex, but really didn't think either was worthy of a #1 pick. I think Braylon Edwards and Ronnie Brown were the only two players whose talent matched up with being taken #1 overall. My biggest hope coming into last year's draft was that SF would find a partner to trade down with, add more 2nd-4th rd picks and then select Aaron or the best DB available closer to the middle of rd 1. Obviously this didn't happen and we got a younger more athletic version of Jay Fiedler instead (omg, did I really just say that?)

Can I stipulate that if Joey Harrington was on a different team, you feel he would be a premier NFL QB?

Yes Dolphin Fans, I just said Marino was a premier NFL QB.  Shut up.

I think it would have helped Harrington more than it hurt, however, he's still not a great QB. His numbers would have been a little better. Hell, maybe he would have turned out decent. I just don't like the fact that teams are willing to throw money to hope for something that has a small chance of happening. You can tell me that getting guys later like the Tom Brady's of the world is a remote chance. However, recent first rounders have been panning out just as well.
