Title: Donkeys Trade 22nd Pick to Niners
Post by: TonyB0D on April 19, 2006, 01:05:01 pm
for their 2nd and 3rd rounders

makes sense, as this is a very deep draft in some areas....i figured the donkeys woulda liked to have those 2 1st rounders tho.  but now the niners have the luxury of trading down their 1st pick, since they have 53 holes to fill

Man, I need to stop working for a living so I can scoop this type of Niners news... ;)

C'mon now...there are only 51 holes to fill. Please don't exaggerate. Geeez  ::)

I love this trade...for both sides.  SF had 12 total picks in this draft, including multiple 3rds, so now we can go after Vernon Davis at #6 and a defensive back or LB at #22. Nolan obviously felt strongly about a player projected to be there at #22 that would definitely be gone by #37 and made the move to ensure he got two players he felt would make an immediate impact.

From the Broncos side...and this is pure conjecture obviously...this move makes me think that Denver is looking at a RB at #15 instead of waiting for #22, and he must like the defensive players he expects to be available at #37. There are going to be pass rushers slipping to that area, so I'm betting on D-line there.

Interesting development...and just in time to make it into my draft article before the deadline.

I wonder if LenDale White's adventure has anything to do with this deal...

I honestly doubt it. He's the wrong fit for Denver's run scheme altogether, and SF already has plenty of RBs. I think this has more to do with Denver deciding that they wanted to add an extra 3rd round pick and felt they could slide from #22 to #37, get one of the players they want and add another quality guy in round 3.

yes, by "players they want" I mean White.

They figure he'll slide into the 2nd round now, so they got the value out of their pick and still get their guy.

They hope.

Anything is possible...but some things just seem less probable than others. Denver having any interest in LenDale White, who even with a healthy hammy can barely pop a 5.0 40-yd dash time, seems pretty unlikely to me. Especially given the abundance of RBs that do fit their system (williams, maroney, addai, etc...) being available in the first 3 rds.

On behalf of the Niners, I'd like to thank whichever teams actually turned down Denver's attempts to move up.  ;D

I wonder who Denver is trying to get?

Also, you can disagree with me on this if you want, but I think Frank Gore is gonna develop into a dangerous NFL RB.
