With the 16th pick in the 2006 NFL Draft, the Miami Dolphins select CB Jimmy Williams, Virginia Tech. Title: Re: Dolphins 1st Round Pick Predictions Post by: YoFuggedaboutit on April 28, 2006, 09:52:23 pm I'm going with S Michael Huff of Texas
Title: Re: Dolphins 1st Round Pick Predictions Post by: Philly Fin Fan on April 28, 2006, 10:37:41 pm The Dolphins trade down with the Colts, and also pick up a second round pick.
Title: Re: Dolphins 1st Round Pick Predictions Post by: YoFuggedaboutit on April 28, 2006, 10:39:15 pm The Dolphins trade down with the Colts, and also pick up a second round pick. Hey!!! No trades allowed!!! Oh.... wait..... this isn't the TDMMC Mock draft. ;D ;D ;D Title: Re: Dolphins 1st Round Pick Predictions Post by: Frimp on April 28, 2006, 10:41:33 pm A stud of a defensive back.
Title: Re: Dolphins 1st Round Pick Predictions Post by: gocowboys31 on April 28, 2006, 10:44:41 pm Antonio Cromartie, if saban was smart.
Title: Re: Dolphins 1st Round Pick Predictions Post by: YoFuggedaboutit on April 29, 2006, 12:01:48 am Antonio Cromartie, if saban was smart. Holy shit!!! A Gators fan endorsing a SEMINOLE??? Damn Satan, it's getting pretty cold down there eh? Title: Re: Dolphins 1st Round Pick Predictions Post by: YoFuggedaboutit on April 29, 2006, 12:08:01 am About Cromartie.... he had a breakout season in 2004, but never really established himself as an elite corner (although I'm sure he would've if he had not gotten injured in 2005 or opted to stay in 2006).Â
Although he's obviously got the tools to play in the NFL, anyone can have a few good workout sessions. He's gonna need some time to develop. Don't expect much from him this season. Title: Re: Dolphins 1st Round Pick Predictions Post by: Sunstroke on April 29, 2006, 02:32:09 am I just sent in my Draft Report...I expect Dave will post it first thing this morning. I tried to break down a lot of the top prospects for Miami's 1st, 3rd and 4th rd picks. I am half asleep at this point though, so I might have written a 9 page armadillo chili recipe...it's hard to say.
I am "hoping" to see Winston Justice slide...I think it is a possibility. If I were dropping a dollar on a guess who Nick will actually take, I'd drop my dollar on CB Tye Hill. I think Nick rates him higher than Jimmy Wiliams at this point. I'm going with S Michael Huff of Texas Filed under the heading of "Only in Coach Saban's wet dreams" Huff goes top-10 with a bullet... Title: Re: Dolphins 1st Round Pick Predictions Post by: bsfins on April 29, 2006, 02:39:46 am The Dolphins trade down with the Colts, and also pick up a second round pick. I tottally agree, the more I think about it the more I like it....I'd actually wouldn't mind doing 2 smaller trade downs (not out of the first round) IE from 16 to 18-21 range, then another one into the 22-29 range. JMO Title: Re: Dolphins 1st Round Pick Predictions Post by: YoFuggedaboutit on April 29, 2006, 08:36:48 am If I were dropping a dollar on a guess who Nick will actually take, I'd drop my dollar on CB Tye Hill. I think Nick rates him higher than Jimmy Wiliams at this point. Hill is 5'9" and 186 lbs. Williams is 6'2" and 213 lbs and is almost as fast. Saban likes bigger DB's, which is why I predicted Huff. If Huff is gone and Williams and Hill are still there, Saban takes Williams. Title: Re: Dolphins 1st Round Pick Predictions Post by: afphinfan on April 29, 2006, 12:07:32 pm Since no one else has I'll go with a QB ... either Cutler or Young. I don't really think this will happen and don't necessarily want it to happen but this way I get to claim that I predicted it!! I would run around naked if we get Justice or Huff, but only time will tell. There certainly are no guarantees especially when the Texans pre-sign Mario Williams ... WTF were they thinking?!
Later, Mark Title: Re: Dolphins 1st Round Pick Predictions Post by: Sunstroke on April 29, 2006, 01:20:33 pm Hill is 5'9" and 186 lbs. Williams is 6'2" and 213 lbs and is almost as fast. Saban likes bigger DB's, which is why I predicted Huff. If Huff is gone and Williams and Hill are still there, Saban takes Williams. Huff gone at #7 to Oakland... I think Saban likes "better" DB's, which is why I went with Hill. I think the difference in speed, both straight line and reactionary, takes it out of the "almost" area between them. I think Jimmy Williams will be a solid corner...I think Hill will be a couple of notches better. Title: Re: Dolphins 1st Round Pick Predictions Post by: CdnDolfan on April 29, 2006, 02:50:52 pm jason allen.... this draft is mess up.
Title: Re: Dolphins 1st Round Pick Predictions Post by: Frimp on April 29, 2006, 02:52:35 pm ^^^
I like this pick. Saban knows what he's doing, and as Berman pointed out....Saban knows this player. Title: Re: Dolphins 1st Round Pick Predictions Post by: fyo on April 29, 2006, 02:53:48 pm So we grabbed an injurred cornerback/safety with bad footwork?
Not sure I like this choice. Title: Re: Dolphins 1st Round Pick Predictions Post by: Frimp on April 29, 2006, 02:55:03 pm Saban liked what he saw at the combine.
Title: Re: Dolphins 1st Round Pick Predictions Post by: TonyB0D on April 29, 2006, 02:59:48 pm WHO THE FUCK....
....is jason allen¿?¿? fuck these costa rican keyboards....i flew back to the hotel on lunch break to check out our pick, and caught it live....but what the hell.... maybe cromartie will slide, seeing as a lotta the big names have slid, and maybe we can get him in the 2nd, or even lendale!! Title: Re: Dolphins 1st Round Pick Predictions Post by: Frimp on April 29, 2006, 03:01:57 pm ^^^
Possibly. Title: Re: Dolphins 1st Round Pick Predictions Post by: MUCPhin on April 29, 2006, 03:06:52 pm any thoughts on Maurice Stovall in the 3rd, maybe even 4th round?
Title: Re: Dolphins 1st Round Pick Predictions Post by: bsfins on April 29, 2006, 03:15:44 pm Hmmm...I kind heard this guy's name in the early second round....I kept saying..ok we're taking alongtime...we're trading down....
Ohhh well...It's gonna be fun for annoucers calling the Dolphins game...Allen with the coverage...Will or Jason? The Allens with the bracket coverage ...Wil playing Man,and Jason over the top.... Title: Re: Dolphins 1st Round Pick Predictions Post by: afphinfan on April 29, 2006, 03:28:01 pm Being an SEC fan, I've seen Allen play plenty of games ... he definitely has a motor and is supposed to be intelligent and of good character. I would have rather seen us trade down and pick up someone like him, but they don't pay us the big bucks so our opinions don't count. Unfortunately, our draft is over until much later ... wish we could of traded Ricky for a pick before he got busted ... SOB!
Title: Re: Dolphins 1st Round Pick Predictions Post by: Sunstroke on April 29, 2006, 04:07:45 pm I hope Allen's hip won't be an issue... If it isn't, I trust Saban knows how to judge talent a fair piece better than I can, but I didn't have Allen on my radar for #16 at all.
any thoughts on Maurice Stovall in the 3rd, maybe even 4th round? He could slide to the 4th round...it looks like WR is being devalued a bit in this draft. If he does, he wouldn't be a bad pick at all. I don't project him as high as Avant or Haggan, but he's a big target at 6'4", and those have good upside in a league where DB's are getting bigger every year. I worry about his head...concentration lapses, dropsies, disappearing in plays where he isn't the primary target. He could mature and become a good one, but I think there could be better options for Saban in the 3rd-4th rounds. Title: Re: Dolphins 1st Round Pick Predictions Post by: Dphins4me on April 29, 2006, 04:30:11 pm Allen was a solid pick. He is right up there with Huff in talent.
The injury dropped him back to us or he would have already been gone. Title: Re: Dolphins 1st Round Pick Predictions Post by: Dphins4me on April 29, 2006, 04:32:18 pm WHO IS. Obviously you are not an SEC fan.....is jason allen¿?¿? ..i flew back to the hotel on lunch break to check out our pick, and caught it live....but what the hell.... maybe cromartie will slide, seeing as a lotta the big names have slid, and maybe we can get him in the 2nd, or even lendale!! Title: Re: Dolphins 1st Round Pick Predictions Post by: BeefStewert on April 29, 2006, 05:22:49 pm WHO THE FUCK.... ....is jason allen¿?¿? fuck these costa rican keyboards....i flew back to the hotel on lunch break to check out our pick, and caught it live....but what the hell.... maybe cromartie will slide, seeing as a lotta the big names have slid, and maybe we can get him in the 2nd, or even lendale!! As of now, we don't have a 2nd. Culpepper, remember? Title: Re: Dolphins 1st Round Pick Predictions Post by: YoFuggedaboutit on April 29, 2006, 06:04:18 pm I'll be honest, I'm a bit baffled by this pick. If Saban wanted a DB, Williams and Cromartie were still there, as was OT Winston Justice (who tumbled all the way to the 33rd pick). The fact that he was in the SEC says a lot about Saban's mentality. Knowing who you were up against in college can either be a blessing or a curse.
Title: Re: Dolphins 1st Round Pick Predictions Post by: BeefStewert on April 29, 2006, 08:02:36 pm Every time they flash on the screen that this is Miami's first defensive 1st round pick since Jamar Fletcher, it makes me sick. I keep having to tell myself that I trust Saban's decisions. I hope he hasn't let me down.
Title: Re: Dolphins 1st Round Pick Predictions Post by: YoFuggedaboutit on April 29, 2006, 09:12:45 pm Derek Hagan.... DEREK HAGAN???? The star WR from Arizona State slipped ALL THE WAY TO THE THIRD ROUND, where the Dolphins quickly snatched him up!!!
Title: Re: Dolphins 1st Round Pick Predictions Post by: MUCPhin on April 29, 2006, 09:15:10 pm VALUE...Nick knows how to find the most of it. Nice pick
Title: Re: Dolphins 1st Round Pick Predictions Post by: DolFan619 on April 30, 2006, 11:11:50 am Wow.... What a wacky draft it has been, the Buffalo Bills are clearly on crack. I must say that I was a bit baffled when Miami selected DB Jason Allen out of Tennessee, but the more I read on him, the more I heard Coach Saban talk about him the more comfortable I felt about it. Plus, the secondary was something that killed us last year. Might as well keep bolstering it up, until it gets right.
Derek Hagan in the third round, what amazing value that is! This guy was the cream of the crop if the receiver class, until the Senior Bowl. However, Senior Bowl's, Combines, and private workouts, only tell you so much about a guy. This was a great pick, and a lot of teams will be kicking themselves in the ass over this one. The 4th round is cranking up and you've still got some high profile guys on there. OG Max Jean Gilles, S Ko Simpson, DT Orien Harris, and LB Elvis Dumervil. Should be interesting! Title: Re: Dolphins 1st Round Pick Predictions Post by: YoFuggedaboutit on April 30, 2006, 11:58:08 am Dolphins just picked OT Joe Toledo of Washington. Holy Toledo!!! I don't know anything about this guy!!! Anyone got a write up on him?
Title: Re: Dolphins 1st Round Pick Predictions Post by: DolFan619 on April 30, 2006, 12:09:53 pm    Here's his college profile.

Yeah...go read the OL section of my draft report again<g>...I really was hoping SF or Miami would go after Joey T in round four. Glad to see he'll go to a genius O-line coach...Houck will turn Joey into a monster. Title: Re: Dolphins 1st Round Pick Predictions Post by: YoFuggedaboutit on April 30, 2006, 02:51:30 pm OK, looks like Nicholson got snatched up by Cincy so no more worrying about him. The draft is now in the 6th round. Time to kick back a little as Miami does not have a 6th rounder but has three 7th rounders.
Saban talked about needing help on the front seven, but has not drafted anyone to fill that need. It would not surprise me if he used all three of his remaining picks on LB's and DL's. Keep in mind you still have some pretty good players that still haven't gone yet. DE Melvin Oliver from LSU, LB Freddie Roach from Alabama, DT Rodrique Wright from Texas, and DT Fred Evans from Texas State. BTW, I wonder who's gonna win the Mr. Irrelevant award? Title: Re: Dolphins 1st Round Pick Predictions Post by: YoFuggedaboutit on April 30, 2006, 04:49:23 pm Fred Evans!!! Meet the newest Dolphin, folks!!!! Hey, Dolfan619, excellent call!!!

I figured that if he was still on the board in the seventh round, Coach Saban would take him. Evans continues the youth movement at DT.

He has a nice burst of accelleration and good hands but tends to operate on the sidelines and avoid contact. He also tends to give less than 100% at times. Hope Saban knows what he is doing.
