Title: Jimmy Smith Retires Post by: crazy_scar_man on May 11, 2006, 05:14:35 pm http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=ap-jaguars-smithretires&prov=ap&type=lgns
I've always been a big fan of Jimmy Smith. He has been a rock solid addition to fantasy squads for several years. I'm sad to see him go. One less low-risk WR come fantasy draft day. Title: Re: Jimmy Smith Retires Post by: Brian Fein on May 11, 2006, 05:44:25 pm Damn,
Now I'm going to have to reach for someone else in the third round. ::) Title: Re: Jimmy Smith Retires Post by: YoFuggedaboutit on May 11, 2006, 06:31:30 pm A solid, consistent receiver throughout his career. If I'm not mistaken, I think this marks the final chapter for the last original Jaguar.
Title: Re: Jimmy Smith Retires Post by: gocowboys31 on May 11, 2006, 08:29:40 pm Rumors are swirling that Smith failed another drug test, which would have led to a 1 year suspension. I'm skeptical of this move. Smith is their only proven WR, and his cap number is pretty reasonable. The move just seems strange.

Title: Re: Jimmy Smith Retires Post by: DolFan619 on May 11, 2006, 09:58:24 pm WOW, this to me is surprising. I thought Jimmy had at least one to two seasons left in him. Well he'll definately be getting inducted into Alltel Stadium's Ring of Honor real soon.

Good call.Title: Re: Jimmy Smith Retires Post by: Frimp on May 12, 2006, 01:23:09 pm Is this similar to Ricky's retirement? I'm going to check out some Jaguars boards to find out if the fans are pissed at Smith or not.
EDIT: Nope. They are not pissed at him. I looked at 3 different boards, and not one person had anything bad to say about him. They also somehow think that this won't hurt them either. Title: Re: Jimmy Smith Retires Post by: CF DolFan on May 12, 2006, 02:45:33 pm Geez .... you guys are a suspicious bunch. Got a little guilt you are hiding fellas? ;) You guys probably think Barry Sanders retired because they caught him on the juice!!! ;D
Just kidding about all that but it is funny how no one takes anyone else at face value any more. A sad state of affairs I guess. Title: Re: Jimmy Smith Retires Post by: Frimp on May 12, 2006, 02:51:11 pm Actually, I was just wondering if the Jaguars fans are pissed at Smith like we were at Ricky. Apparently, they are not.
Title: Re: Jimmy Smith Retires Post by: Phishfan on May 12, 2006, 03:08:09 pm I get your point CF, but Jimmy did wait until a pretty late time to retire and he has had drug issues. I have heard that Del Rio asked him to think about retirement for a bit before announcing (he apparently approached them about it much earlier in the year).
Title: Re: Jimmy Smith Retires Post by: Dave Gray on May 12, 2006, 03:10:40 pm It wouldn't surprise me one iota if Smith failed a drug test. It's sort of suspicious when players just reture when they have good years left...especially at this time of year. ...and he's had failed tests before. It's not that big of a leap.
Wasn't coke his drug of choice? One time I saw him trying to sniff up the goalline. I'm sorry, I'm just picturing a post-TD celebration where the player gets on the ground and pretends to snort coke off the goalline. I wonder if that would warrent an NFL fine. I wonder if that would warrent an NFL fine. Why yes, yes it would... Technically he would be using "props" in his celebration, and that is fine-worthy under the new celebration rules.
