Good.  He can play ball, stay in shape, be in a structured environment so he keeps to his drug treatment program, and make some $$$ to feed his kids.

Hopefully he'll keep his nose clean so he can come back in 2007.

Or hopefully he'll decide he likes the CFL better and stay there. ::)

I have a question.  What happens when he commits his 5th Drug Violation?

NFL League policy says he's expelled from the league after 5 policy violations.

More like they can keep you out for as long as they deem necessary.  There is a chance you can come back..... but it's slim to none.

Note, there's also no guarantee they'll let him back next year EVEN if he doesn't violate / get caught. See Onterrio "The Original Whizzinator" Smith.

After that year is over, they sit down and interview him again to evaulate his overall attitude towards the program and towards addiction.  Keep in mind that you're still subject to the same counseling and testing guidelines as "Stage 3" of the program while you are suspended.  From what I have gathered, Onterrio Smith wasn't keeping to his program and had failed a couple of tests during the year.  That's why he was not reinstated.

Bob Flanders of Dolphinblog.com has always felt strongly about Ricky and what he means to our team.  Here's his take on the latest:

A couple of points about Ricky and Saban:

Some folks are scratching their head about Saban's devotion to the Rickster. Why is Saban going out of his way to help a twice suspended football player who fails NFL drug tests?

Me-thinks that deep inside, St. Nick is furious at the NFL and how all this played out.

Rickys agent, his attorney and other experts of the drug testing policy have said many times that Rickys failed test going public surely played into the decision the NFL made regarding his appeal. The NFL couldn't appear weak on the issue and Ricky was simply the sacrificial Lamb.

Saban's experience with Ricky has been nothing but fabulous from the get go and it is obvious that Saban absolutely loves the guy. Rickys work ethic, his attitude, his mentoring of the young Ronnie Brown, etc---Ricky was Sabans type of football player. Saban had a superstar running back with the attitude of the Dali Lama.

I can just imagine Saban's reaction when he got word that Ricky had failed the drug test. Man that had to kill him. I can also imagine his reaction when he found out that the failed test was caused by nothing more than an over-the-counter herbal yoga supplement (allegedly)....... AND I can imagine how pissed off he was when it went public thanks to some moron Denver Broncos assistant who blabbed about it to a Denver TV station.

Saban knows that Ricky got a raw deal and that's why Saban is bending over backwards for him. Nick may be one tough SOB-- but it sure appears that he's also a fair man who will do whatever he can for players who are devoted to him.

The respect between the player and coach is rock solid and if Ricky gets through his Canadian gig intact, he'll be playing for the Phins in 2007. They're aint no way that Saban's going to bat for Ricky simply to trade him for a high draft pick next season.

The construction of this team is coming together piece by piece and it's going to take at least 2 seasons to complete. This season if Daunte stays healthy and Ronnie doesn't suffer the sophomore jinx, the Phins should turn enough heads to make us one of the favorites to play in the 2008 Super Bowl. That's right--2008. Can it happen in 2007? Perhaps---and it would be cool to play the Super Bowl in our own backyard.-----But I'm not going to go all silly thinking that we're all that just yet.

Is Saban disappointed that Ricky won't be playing for the Phins in 2007?--- Sure he is---but Nick knows that he's got some more building to do and it's going to take at least another season. He's patient--- So I'm thinking that he's thinking that losing Ricky this season isn't as devastating as some may think. Heck--it may be a plus in a couple of ways. Ronnie will get maximum playing time which means more experience and Ricky will come back next season in football shape and fresh legs.

It's funny how all this is turning out. When Ricky was suspended, I was pissed that I wouldn't be able to see him run this season. I wasn't overly concerned that it would hurt the Phins because I think that Ronnie Brown is one of the next great running backs in the NFL.

It's like having two high performance automobiles---a Mercedes and a Porsche. They repo'ed the Mercedes but we still got the Porsche.

I can live with just the Porsche for a year--- can you?

Huh, I was just looking over the Argos' roster, and they have more than a few former Dolphins on that team.  John Avery (RB), Robert Baker (WR), Ronald Flemons (DE), and of course Ricky Williams.

Wow, Lee Woodall's still playing football, with the Argos...
