Title: Top 50 players
Post by: Denver_Bronco on May 31, 2006, 12:54:57 pm

http://www.sportsline.com/nfl/story/9469847

1. Peyton Manning, QB, Colts: A lot of people will argue with this choice, but his remains the most important position. When he finally does win a Super Bowl, he will finally get his due.

2. Tom Brady, QB, Patriots: He had an amazing season in 2005, carrying and offense without a running attack. He is right up there with Manning, just a smidge under him in the ratings.

3. LaDainian Tomlinson, RB, Chargers: This is the game's best back and he's an MVP candidate every season. He will be forced to do more now that Drew Brees is gone. Here's hoping they don't beat him up.

4. Champ Bailey, CB, Broncos: There is no better cover corner in the league. He can take away the other team's best receiver. Don't believe the nonsense that he isn't the best at his position. And his position has a premium value to it.

5. Carson Palmer, QB, Bengals: He's coming off knee surgery, which is a concern, but he has made big strides in his recovery. He had an amazing season in 2005 and we can expect many more.

Tom Brady #2 is almost as laughable as Chump Bailey #4

Champ Bailey #4 top NFL player????

Come on.

He lists Dwight Freeney up near the top, too, even though he's only a pass-rusher, but knocks Jason Taylor to the 40s for being mainly a pass-rusher.  Urlacher in the top 10 confounded me, too.

I actually agree with Bailey that high.

Cover corner is one of the most valuable position on the field, but it's hard to measure the success, because they don't see the ball as much if they're good.  Bailey is probably the best cover corner in the biz.

Alexander at #20?  Palmer at #5.   ::)

This guy is a 'gloid.

Alexander is #20 but Tom freakin' Brady is #2?

Is this top 50 pretty boys or top 50 athletes?

Again, he makes a good point about the value of QBs.  Alexander probably won't be around a long time...RBs don't last that long.  A franchise QB can be around for 15 years.  RBs usually give you like 5.

Tomlinson is #3 so that doesn't hold water.

Why is Tomlinson #3 if "RB's don't last that long?"

You're right.  There are some inconsistencies.  I was just commenting on how he has lots of QBs higher than RBs.

Who would you rather take...

Shaun Alexander
Randy Moss
Chad Johnson
Marvin Harrison

.....Champ Bailey....

I'm sorry but you cannot convince me that one cover-corner should be ranked higher then any of those guys.  I don't care if it was Deion Sanders in his freaking prime of all primes - he's not in the top 10.  Period.

I think Champ Bailey is probably a better player than Shaun Alexander.  ...maybe I'm crazy.

yes, you're crazy.
If Champ Bailey had 6 games a year vs. the 9ers, Rams, and Cardinals he'd have about 15 picks which would surpass the padded stats of Alexander.

Manning at #1, that's funny. This isn't fantasy, this is the top 50 players. I would take Tom Brady over Manning in a second. The only thing I like about Manning is trade ability. You can probably get an insane deal from a team in need of a quarterback. He's had James, Harrison, Wayne, Stokely. He still doesn't help in the playoffs. Ok, I'm done now....

Stokely?

the same stokely that played in Batimore and SUCKED?

Manning made some of these guys what they are.

...and the argument continues.  It's like talking to Marino bashers.  And Manning plays defense too huh?  F  that,  I'll take a Manning over ANY QB in this league.
