Title: Re: **Roethlisburger in accident** Post by: CF DolFan on June 12, 2006, 12:43:28 pm There is an article at the bottom of the page dated May 16th where Terry Bradshaw is telling Ben to park his motorcycle until he retires.Â
Quote "Ben, you're starting to make me think you're not that smart," said Bradshaw, looking directly into a camera and pointing his index finger. "Did you not see what that idiot in Cleveland did? You're cool enough without it (the bike). Wait until you're 33, 34. Ride the sucker all you want then." As the interview ended, Bradshaw walked off, muttering, "I can't believe he's riding that motorcycle. Stupidest thing I ever heard of." Title: Re: **Roethlisburger in accident** Post by: Cyp on June 12, 2006, 12:48:24 pm I agree with you TonyBOD
Why aren't these individual clubs writng clauses into player contracts saying that they aren't allowed to purposely sidestep safety messures. Can anyone imagine what the scene would be if his head hit underneath the wheel as opposed to a windshield. Not to sound completely cold hearted, but the players are investments made by companies. They should be requiring these investments to at least make a basic attempt to protect themselves in basic situations of risk. It's the same reason why we put insurance on cars, houses, etc... (and don't one of you asses say that berger needs Geico cus you know what I mean). As they say at WuTang financial...."Protect your GD neck!!!" Title: Re: **Roethlisburger in accident** Post by: TonyB0D on June 12, 2006, 12:55:11 pm As they say at WuTang financial...."Protect your GD neck!!!" LOL....best line all week!! Title: Re: **Roethlisburger in accident** Post by: Sunstroke on June 12, 2006, 12:58:39 pm Unbelievable...though as someone who rides motorcycles without a helmet whenever I ride, I do understand his aversion to wearing a helmet. Of course, if I had a multi-million dollar contract like Ben has, I'd drive a damned' Volvo while wearing clothing made out of bubble wrap.
Title: Re: **Roethlisburger in accident** Post by: Sunstroke on June 12, 2006, 12:59:38 pm I just heard that he is conscious and alert. So at this point, he's in better shape than Terry Bradshaw... Title: Re: **Roethlisburger in accident** Post by: Phishfan on June 12, 2006, 01:04:03 pm I agree with you TonyBOD Why aren't these individual clubs writng clauses into player contracts saying that they aren't allowed to purposely sidestep safety messures. Because they write in the contract that players are not allowed to ride motorcycles period. No need to have a safety clause if it already states they are not to take part in the activities. The clubs are quilty for letting them ride at all. BRILLIANT! i agree with stroke.... Quote Unbelievable...though as someone who rides motorcycles without a helmet whenever I ride, I do understand his aversion to wearing a helmet. Especially considering Big Ben wears a helmet for a living.

Good job dumbass. Â Enjoy your Super Bowl ring. Title: Re: **Roethlisburger in accident** Post by: MaineDolFan on June 12, 2006, 03:43:16 pm I don't usually disagree with Stroke, but I'll take him to task on this one: he (nor anyone) should be riding without a helmet. I am 35, on my 6th machine, been riding since I was 15. I think I've ridden twice in my life without a dome protector. It's just not smart to do.
1) You're on two wheels and your margain for error is...well...zero. 2) Something sick like 87% of all motorcycle accidents are the fault of the other party. So...you do the math. If 87% of all cycle accidents are due to someone other than the rider's error, why leave yourself out there with such a danger to your well being? Amazing road rash isn't enough without adding brain damage? Stroke - seeing that you and I have many beers together in our future, my brotha...buy a fucking helmet. Lost too many friends to people that felt "restricted" by them. Title: Re: **Roethlisburger in accident** Post by: Phishfan on June 12, 2006, 04:33:21 pm When I lived in WV I had two friends riding bikes and I was following (in a car). We stopped at a gas station and they took off in front of me. As I came around a bend I looked down the hill and sure enough saw two bikes on the side, one laid down and the other standing. When I saw my friend's helmet it had skinned all the way through the shell and had a hole big enough I could have put my fist through. The thing saved his life.
That said I know we cannot make others do what is good for them, but weigh this out. Our lawmakers find it absolutely necessary that we wear seat belts in a car, but find it perfectly safe to ride motorcycles without helmets. Does anyone see the reasoning? Title: Re: **Roethlisburger in accident** Post by: TEKGOD on June 12, 2006, 05:13:20 pm screw helmets - he can't pick up chicks with those on. He lived on the edge & took his damage like a man. This will only add to the glory of big ben.
Title: Re: **Roethlisburger in accident** Post by: Fau Teixeira on June 12, 2006, 05:27:14 pm Roethlisberger lost most of his teeth, fractured his left sinus cavity bone, suffered a nine-inch laceration to the back of his head and a broken jaw, and severely injured both of his knees when he hit the ground, police said.
Title: Re: **Roethlisburger in accident** Post by: Sunstroke on June 12, 2006, 06:13:24 pm I do feel bad for Ben... I hope he makes a full recovery and learns his lesson.
Maine... I can't debate the numbers with you, because they're definitely on your side on this subject. Personally, I don't like wearing a helmet because every helmet I've ever worn has shielded enough of my peripheral vision to make me feel uncomfortable. Debate to continue over the beer when we get together next. Title: Re: **Roethlisburger in accident** Post by: TonyB0D on June 12, 2006, 06:44:55 pm broken face bone, broken jaw, broken nose, injured both knees.......loooks like we're winning the season opener....

Title: Re: **Roethlisburger in accident** Post by: YoFuggedaboutit on June 12, 2006, 07:47:12 pm What's crazy about all this is that most NFL contracts have clauses that prohibit the player from engaging in dangerous activity. That SPECIFICALLY includes motorcycle riding. It's up to the Steelers if they want to do it or not, but they could go after his signing bonus just like the Browns could've gone after Kellen Winslow's.
Title: Re: **Roethlisburger in accident** Post by: Cali Phins Fan on June 12, 2006, 09:44:24 pm Does anyone know if it is optional to wear a helmet in PA? I know in California it is mandatory.
Title: Re: **Roethlisburger in accident** Post by: Pats2006 on June 12, 2006, 09:47:31 pm Yes its optional.
Just seen the news, he is fucked up!! He most def. will not play this year!! Title: Re: **Roethlisburger in accident** Post by: BeefStewert on June 13, 2006, 01:12:08 am I read he crashed a Hayabusa (DeathMachine #1). That is a long fucking way away from the Harleys or choppers he claims were safe in this interview. In this story he put down sport bikes.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2481004 Quote ESPN: How much do you view riding a motorcycle as a risk? Roethlisberger: I think it can be a risk. It depends on how you ride. I don't ride a sport bike. If I'm riding a sport bike and trying to do tricks, and going 200 miles down the highway, that's probably pretty stupid. But when you're riding a Harley or a chopper and you're riding with a group of people and you're not on the highway and you're cruising, you're relaxing. I don't think its as much of a risk as people make it out to be. ESPN: What is the difference between what you're talking about, recreational riding, and what Kellen Winslow was doing? What kind of bike do you ride? Roethlisberger: I ride a Harley and a chopper. Those are the two bikes I ride the most. ESPN: Are those viewed a top of the line, high performance cycles? Roethlisberger: They are like, it would be like riding in a Cadillac compared to a Ferrari, which is a sport bike. It's a luxury motorcycle. You know it's relaxing. You don't pop wheelies, because it's pretty hard to do it anyway. So you just keep two wheels on the ground and you just ride. |
