I hate to do this in case it did actually happen, but I really question the source. Isn't The Sun the same rag we see in grocery stores with the 'Elvis is Alive! He Raped My Alien Baby Daddy's Adopted Son!" stories?

I have seen this on other websites as well.  The Sun is halfway between a legitimate newspaper and a rag, but I think this really happened.

The Sun is a legitimate newspaper, it doesn't make stuff up, although it does dumb it down.  Given that on page 3 everyday there is a picture of a topless woman, you can understadn what market the paper is pitched at.

I do not see the parallels between them except for the cannibalism.  The Donner party made a mistake and got caught in a bad situation, these people, if the accusations are true, made their own situation. Plus the Donner party ate the dead, not live people.
