Classy McCown traded: Is Beck safe or next to go?

One would assume that John Beck would be safe now that Josh McCown has been dealt to the Panthers for an undisclosed draft pick (which usually means a seventh-rounder), but you know what they say about assuming.

It's quite possible Tuna and Co. are still shopping Beck for a pick and will grab a veteran QB when one is available. Hey Daunte, you still playing hoops at a nearby JCC?

I guess Rev.Cam over at Baltimore passed on his protege Beck and instead opted to sign former Dolphins training camp QB Casey Bramlett as Kyle Boller insurance.

Hope H. Wayne and his pard Mr. Ross aren't keeping tabs of the more than $3 million his crew has tossed into the ocean in the last couple of days with the strange cutting of safety Keith Davis and now the trade of McCown, who got $2.5 large up front when he signed last March.

Beck has been throwing the ball better lately, but what's going on with the fumbled snaps between him and whatever backup center is in there?

What do you think? Is Beck a keeper or a goner?

I'm expecting a few surprises on cut day today especially in the linebacking corps. Rob Ninkovch played like a man possessed the other night and probably beat out someone unexpected. I'd shut the cell phone off Quentin. If TE Justin Peelle is cut because of his $1.3 million salary, I guarantee he will be scooped up in a hurry.

Hopefully, with the cutting of Davis, the Fins keep six receivers including rookie Anthony Armstrong - one of my new favorites on the team.

FYI Josh McCown was class from day one to the end. I wish he got a longer look in the preseason, but clearly Chad Pennington is another step up.

With Delhomme an old 33 and coming of Tommy John surgery, the Panthers - a playoff caliber team - could be a nice fit for McCown.

Guess McCown's abbreviated stint in Miami will be most known for his role in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre sequel when his kid bro Luke of the Bucs nearly sawed off Josh's finger (on his throwing hand) in a chainsaw accident on the family farm in Jacksonville, Texas.

Good Luck Josh, we hardly knew you.

Fins: McCown traded

Here is the story on our website.

It's hard to argue that Josh McCown was cheated here.

He had a chance to impress during the minicamps and training camp.

If he had shown more, maybe the Dolphins refrain from signing Chad Pennington.

He got a $2.5 million bonus for his trouble.

Jake Delhomme is returning from a serious arm injury, and Matt Moore just got hurt, so McCown might get a chance to play there.

Now, do you hold onto John Beck?

To deal him, the team would need to be confident that it could find a stopgap or developmental quarterback on the street, after the next round of cuts. Yet if the Dolphins have truly lost confidence in Beck, and can get a conditional 5th-round pick, they should do it. A sixth? Tough call. A seventh? Might as well keep him, at least for now.

I was disappointed when we signed McCown, I was unimpressed by his play in camp/preseason, and I am not sad to see him leave.  However, he always seemed to carry himself in a professional manner, so there is that.

In all sincerity, good luck to him in his future endeavors.
