Slippery slope.  Educational rights and laws are all tied in together.  If you take out government intervention with education it leaves you with...what?  How do you fund school systems?  How do you mandate that educate is not optional?[
Gov can be involved with education, in the sense of mandating kids must attend just as they do now, just not be the ones providing & determining what is taught.

Basically right now as a parent I have no or very little say in what it taught in my kids school.  I want the right to say, if I do not like what you are teaching then I can take my kid/my money somewhere else.  Everything works with competition.

Schools should be privatized & allow the parents to determine where their kids go to school.  I should not be "Force" into sending my kids to only one school & have no say in the curriculum.

I have no problem with the Gov helping pay for kids who's parents are deadbeats & do not work.

The biggest problem is society today is Gov education.  Its why we have idiots running around who turn to the Gov when something goes wrong & think its the Gov responsibility to take care of them.  However, the more ignorant the public the easier it is for politicians to get away with underhanded maneuvers.

An education public is the scariest thing to them.

They need to pull all the extra horseshit out of the curriculum and stick with the three "R's" until we have brought our while system back up to what is was a few decades ago before we injected that "feel good" stuff from the late 60's to early 70's.

Do you support vouchers or should parents have to continue to pay for public schools while also paying for private schools?

The question is, do you support abandoning failing schools and leaving them for dead?  Because, IMO, that's what you are doing if you support vouchers.  That was former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush's educational plan, one I don't like one bit.

Now in New York and New Jersey, the process is way different and way better.  If a school is deemed to be "failing" over a significant period of time, the state immediately seizes power over the school from the local school board and begins to remedy the situation.

Here's a perfect example of that from Morgan Freeman when he was playing former Patterson (NJ) Eastside High principal Joe Clark in "Lean On Me"

Quote
"They have given me less than one year... one school year to turn this place around.... to get those test scores up.  So the state will not take us over to perform the task which YOU have failed to do!!  To EDUCATE our children!!"

This is one I have teetered back and forth on. I am not sure I like public money going into private education, but I know the tuitions can be a burden. Tough call.

There are too many idiots out there. No, people should not have a (direct) say in what is taught in school. You would end up condemning children because of their parents. It's difficult enough to break free of the random social rank you're born into, don't fuck with the basic education.

True, I have to  pay twice.  Once for my kids education & the taxes to the local schools.

Gov. education is the reason we have so many idiots out there.  They teach to the dumbest so they will not be left behind.   The problem is we cannot save every kid.  As sad as that may be its a fact.  Some kids will not make it for what ever reason.

When the Gov starts educating the people then they start controlling the people.  Teaching them that Gov is suppose to be there to take care of them & that they do not have to take care of themselves.

I'm not saying I get to determines the curriculum.  I'm saying if I do not like your curriculum then I can go somewhere else.   The people running the schools still get to determine the curriculum.

Schools should not be much different than going to the store.  If I do not like the prices then I go somewhere else.
