saw this on Miamiherald.com, it's about Mike Jacobs

"The Marlins, who had a $22 million payroll in 2008, wanted to deal Jacobs to Kansas City, but the deal died last week because of a medical issue involving the minor-league pitcher that Florida would have received. The Marlins also spoke to Toronto and San Francisco about Jacobs."

Maine, any input you have on this, who is jacobs, can he help the jays be better, and what could it cost toronto to get him.

Jacobs is a guy with sexy numbers, but not as good as advertised. You see his 32 HR and 93 RBI in a pitcher's park and you think you got yourself a bargain. Then you see his .299 OBP and realize this guy is an out machine and is hurting your team unless he cranks out 35 HR and 45 doubles. Even then, he isn't as valuable as when David Ortiz does it because Ortiz can get on base.

Add that to the fact that he will be 28 soon and he isn't a guy you give up value for. I would trade Ian Kennedy and a reliever for him, but not much else.

Solid first baseman, left handed power hitter.  Mike Jacobs is probably my favorite Marlin.  However, he was often the first guy to get the hook in the double switch late in games, can't really say why.

I don't know the Jays really well - do you have a need for a first basemen?  We need bullpen help badly.

Dude swings for the fences no matter the situation. He had a couple of bombs that won us games, and he had a couple of base loaded strike outs that made me sour on him.

His defense is not far from atrocious.

I'm hoping he gets traded off for whatever we can get considering he's not worth a whole lot. We have Cantu and Sanchez at the corners of the infeild next year and I am very content with that.

Raptors, if your team gives up anything for him, you should be burning the GM's house down.

And he's never played for a team with a great hitting coach and support staff.  Put him in a better lineup, with a better tutor and hitting coach, and watch that .299 OBP head to about .360 in one year.

The Florida Marlins Get your Marlins Tickets now! traded power-hitting first basemen Mike Jacobs to the Kansas City Royals for pitcher Leo Nunez Thursday, according to the team.

Jacobs, coming off a career-best 32-homer season, had been deemed expendable due to his poor defense at first and an arbitration-fed salary bump that could put him over $2 million next season.

Former University of Miami standout Gaby Sanchez, who spent last season in Double-A, is the frontrunner to replace Jacobs.

Nunez, 25, was 4-1, 2.98 in 45 relief appearances with the Royals in 2008. He held right-handed hitters to a .230 average, while opposing batters hit just .249 with two home runs off him overall. He was scored on in just one of his last 13 appearances and had a stretch of 21 consecutive batters retired Sept. 13-26.

Jacobs, 27, was acquired by the Marlins in a 2005 trade with the Mets. He hit .247 and drove in 93 RBI in 141 games last year as the Marlins became the first team ever to have all four infielders hit 25 or more home runs.

The Blue Jays and Mariners also inquired about Jacobs, but the power-starved Royals were the most aggressive suitor.
